George Cooper, farmer, sec. 1; P. O., Summum; is a native of
Holmes Co., O., where he was born in 1839; his father was Charles
Cooper, a well known resident of Fulton county; in an early day he
moved to Ohio, where he was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Ramplay, by
whom he had 4 children, - George, John, Abraham and Mary. Charles
Cooper became a resident of Fulton county in 1846, settled in Woodland
township, and died one year afterward. Mrs. Cooper, who was born in
Holmes county, Ohio, is still living, a resident of Bernadotte tp.;
George received a liberal education; when the war broke out he enlisted
in Co. G, 85th Ill. Inf.; was honorably discharged at Washington, D.
C.; he returned to Fulton county, where he has since resided; in 1868
he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Shields, a daughter of Kinsey
Shields, whose sketch is found in this volume. Two children were born
of this marriage, - Mary C. and Charles K.
