David Corbett, farmer and stock-raiser, sec. 5; P. O., Vermont;
was born in Harrison Co., O., June 11, 1818, and is the son of Samuel
Corbett, a native of Ireland. In the flush of early manhood he
crossed the ocean to this country, but just where he settled is not
known, probably in Ohio, where he followed farming and married Mrs.
Elizabeth Maxwell, and they had 6 children, of whom David was the
youngest but one. In Harrison Co. David united his fortunes with
Miss Susan Harrison, daughter of Wm. Harrison. In 1842 Mr. C. set
out for the West, eventually reaching Astoria township, where he worked
as a cooper. In 1844 or '45 he made his first purchase of land,
consisting of 110 acres. As it was heavily timbered he labored
hard for many years, determined to make a home for his family; how well
he has succeded subsequent years have shown. It may truly be said
of him that he is a model farmer and deserves all that his industry has
made. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Corbett was blessed with 8
children, 6 of whom are living, - John, Granville, Albert, Catherine,
Samuel and Oscar.
