  Jacob Cossairt, of the firm of S. A. Robinson & Co., mill owners, was born in Ohio in 1834. His father, Francis Cossairt, was born in Warren Co., O., where he followed farming, and married  Mary J. Phillips, by whom he had 6 boys and 3 girls. Jacob, the second child, received a liberal education; when the war broke out he was a resident of Missouri, where he enlisted in Co. I, 8th Mo. Cav.; rose through meritorious conduct to Captaincy; was honorably discharged at the close of the war; in former years while residing in Iowa, he married Miss Hettie Alcorn, by whom he had 8 children; from Missouri, in 1877, he moved to Fulton Co., Ill., locating in Woodland Tp., where, in connection with S. A. Robinson he purchased an interest in the saw-mill above mentioned.
