Charles Cox, son of Amos Cox, was born in Schuylkill Co., Pa.,
July 19, 1849; has been a railroad man for over 3 years, also engaged
in farming for 5 years. He was apprenticed to Benjamin Haffer, a
shoemaker, when but 12 years old; he remained with Haffer nearly 4
years, and came to McDonough Co., Ill., in 1870, where he engaged in
farming. In 1873 he established a shoe-shop in Good Hope, which he
carried on successfully for three years, when he removed to Table
Grove, where he has had greater success than he had anticipated. He was
married Oct. 7, 1875, to Sarah Porter, who has borne him 2 children,
John and Amos. Mrs. Cox's father, Samuel Porter, was one of the
pioneers of Canton, where he still lives.
