J. B. Coyner, lumber dealer, located in this thriving town
during the month of February, 1871. He is a native of Augusta,
Va., and was born in the year 1842. His father, Harrison H.
Coyner, was a Southern planter, and was a gentleman of considerable
means before the war. The subject of this sketch obtained a
liberal education. During the war and at the fall of Vicksburg he
concluded to ??? his fortunes in the West, and accordingly in 1863 he
came to Astoria. Here he engaged in contracting and building, and
put up some of the best buildings in this section. In 1873 he
purchased property from B. F. Linn and opened a lumber yeard where he
has since carried on a large trade. In 1866 he was married to
Miss Ella E., daughter of William Hettrick, of Astoria tp. Of
this marriage 6 children were born, - Mary E., William, John W.,
Charles E., George H. and Olive Bell.
