Albert G. Pickering, farmer; P. O., Table Grove; was born in
Freeport, Harrison Co., O., Dec. 28, 1829. He was but 12 years old when
his father died, and he received but 3 months’ schooling. He was
knocked around, as it were, from pillar to post until 17 years of age,
when he located with his mother, and began business for himself, buying
stock and farming. He apprenticed himself in 1851 to John McMatts, a
plasterer, of Cadiz, Ohio; with whom he remained about 18 months. He
then began the business for himself, which he pursued until 1857. He
came to Fulton Co. in the fall of 1856, where he now resides, a
prosperous farmer of Table Grove. He was married in May, 1859, to Sarah
J. Strode, and they have had 6 children, of whom 5 are living. Mrs.
Pickering died Feb. 12, 1872, leaving the care of the household to
Misses Helen E. and Sarah I.
