William P. Portlock was born in Shelby Co., Ind., April 6, 1840,
and is the son of the late Dr. Portlock, a pioneer of Fulton Co., of
whom we speak further elsewhere. His parents brought him to this county
when but an infant. He here received a common-school education, where
he was reared on a farm. He was married May 1, 1861, to Adelaide
Hickey, and they have had 10 children, of whom 5 are living, viz: Ida,
Martha, Lucy, Mary and Squire. Mr. Portlock is a farmer in good
circumstances, on section 20, Farmers’ tp., and owns 200 acres of very
good land.
