M. L. Severns, city barber, is a native of Schuyler Co., Ill.,
where he was born Jan. 14, 1853. His father, J. T. Severns, is an old
resident of Astoria and a carpenter and joiner by occupation. Lafayette
grew to manhood in this county and received a good common-school
education. For a number of years he worked at farming; then he learned
his present trade, at which he has been quite successful, and has the
respect of every citizen. April 25, 1875, he was united in marriage to
Miss Isabel Thompson. Nellie is their only child.
