Nathan Shannon, farmer, sec. 21; P. O., Astoria. The gentleman
here named is a native of Tuscarawas Co., O., where he was born in
1833. At the early age of 16 he accompanied his parents, Eneas and
Melinda Shannon, to Ill. They located in Astoria tp. on farm property
where Nathan grew to manhood. When the war broke out he enlisted in Co.
H, 85th Ill. Inf. He was honorably discharged in 1862, and returned to
Fulton Co., where he has since followed farming. In 1855 he was united
in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Downey, daughter of Joseph Downey, by
whom he has (blank) children, - Henry, Ewin, Maria, Ada, Irvin,
Melinda, Walter, Hettrick and Eneas.
