Charles M. Smith owns and occupies a fine tract of land on
section 7, Banner Township. The estate consists of eighty acres of
thoroughly cultivated land, bearing a complete set of fine buildings
and the other improvements which stamp the owner as a young man of
enterprise and good taste.
Mr. Smith was born in the township of which he is now an honored
resident, February 26, 1868, was reared on a farm and received a
district-school education. His father, William H. Smith, Esq., was
quite extensively engaged in farming and milling, and our subject
assisted him until he had reached his majority. He then established
himself in life, beginning a career which promises to prove successful
in a financial sense, and in securing for him the further good will of
those about him. Mr. Smith inherits from his father a belief in the
principles of Democracy, which he therefore supports with his ballot.
He possesses agreeable traits of character, pleasant manners and a good
character.
On September 19, 1889, Mr. Smith was happily married to Clara,
daughter of Thomas Fouts, one of the old and prominent settlers of the
county. The home of the young couple has once been visited by the angel
of life and they have a young son named Elmer.
