Velorus Smith, farmer and teamster, sec. 21; P. O., Cuba. Mr.
Smith stepped forward to defend his country in hours of danger, - when
she was assailed by rebel hands. He enlisted in Co. D, 70th Ill. Inf.,
in 1762 {1862}, and served till close of term. He was born in Union Co., O.,
Feb. 28, 1842, and is the son of William and Mary - Thomas - Smith. He
received his education in Delaware, O. In 1869 was married to Martha
Laswell. All the children given them - 4 boys and one girl - are
living. Mrs. S. is a member of the Christian Church.
