Obituary of Orrin "Andy" T. Anderson

Orrin T. Anderson Dies In Detroit
  Word was received here late Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 14, of the death of Orrin T. (Andy) Anderson at a hospital in Detroit, Mich., where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.
  He was the son of Robert E. and Susan Burgard Anderson.
  Besides his wife, Zenita (Brown) Anderson, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Alice Enoch of Detroit, Mich., 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
  Funeral services were held at Redford, Mich. on Friday afternoon.
  He was a member of the Christian Church and Masonic Lodge of Astoria.

  Robert M. Applegate, 71, of Bardolph, died at 7:03 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital.
  He was born May 5, 1930, in Macomb, the son of Richard and Lotta McLaren Applegate. He married Melba Fugate on May 20, 1950, in Macomb. She survives.
  He is also survived by five daughters, Linda (Mike) Rouse, Prairie City, Terry (Lloyd) Stambaugh, St. Augustine, Dixie Applegate, Vail, Colo., Debra Applegate, Liberty, Mo., and Dawn (Max) Ford, Bardolph; one son, Gary Applegate, Macomb; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one half brother, Bill Applegate.
  Robert had lived in the Bardolph area for 47 years. He was a tool and die maker, and was a former member of the Macomb Eagles Club.
  Funeral services were held on Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb, with Chaplain Ron Green officiating. Burial was at the Bardolph Cemetery in Bardolph. Memorials may be made to the McDonough County Cancer Fund.

  AVON - Loyd M. "Red" Aringdale, 84, Avon, died at 1:57 p.m. Monday (Sept. 4, 2006) in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
  He was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Avon, the son of Lloyd and Hilda Jane Witter Aringdale.
  He married Bernita Beaston on Aug. 21, 1953, in Galesburg.
  Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Suzanne (and Jerry) Ewalt, Galesburg; two sisters, Barbara Thurman, Abingdon, and Nancy (and Jean) Stenger, Bushnell; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a sister.
  He lived all his life in Avon.
  He served in the Army for six years, stationed in the South Pacific.
  He was a caster at Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon for 30 years, retiring in 1976.
  He enjoyed gardening.
  Cremation was accorded. Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Corman Memorial Home, Avon. Burial will be in Avon Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans.

  Loyd M. “Red” Aringdale, 84, Avon, died at 1:57 p.m., Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
  He was born Feb. 15, 1922, the son of Lloyd and Hilda Jane (Witter) Aringdale.
  He married Bernita Beaston, Aug. 21, 1953, in Galesburg. She survives.
  He is also survived by one daughter, Suzanne (Jerry) Ewalt, Galesburg; one granddaughter, Kelly Ewalt DiDonato, Round Lake Beach; two sisters, Barbara Thurman, Abingdon, and Nancy (Jean) Stenger, Bushnell.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
  He was born and raised in Avon where he has lived his entire life. He served in the U.S. Army for six years, serving in the South Pacific Theater. He was a caster at Briggs Mnfg. in Abingdon for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He enjoyed gardening.
  Memorial services were held Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at Corman Memorial Home, Avon.
  Cremation rites were accorded. Burial was in Avon Cemetery, Avon.

  Larry Earl Aten, 21, died early this morning in the Culbertson hospital in Rushville following a brief illness.  He was a lifetime resident of the Astoria area.
  Born Dec. 4, 1940 at Canton, he was a son of Clarence and Violet Stambaugh Aten.  He was a member of the E.U.B. church in Astoria.
  Surviving in addition to his parents is one brother, Lowell Aten of Rantoul, Ill.  An infant sister preceded him in death.
  Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.

  GALESBURG - Ralph W. Bailey, 86, of Seminary Estates, Galesburg, died at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 1992, at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
  Born Feb. 20, 1906, in Parvil to Oliver and Bessie Coons Bailey, he married Beatrice A. Traynor on April 30, 1934, in Knoxville. She died April 11, 1982. He later married Thelma Stancliff on Feb. 14, 1987, in Galesburg. She survives.
  Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Phyllis) Watt of Muskegon, Mich.; one stepson, Richard Eldridge of Oquawka; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Marlene Guthrie of Oneida and Mrs. Don (Norma) Schroll of Winfall, Ind.; five stepbrothers, Murl Bailey of Abington, Warren Bailey of Galesburg, Elmer Bailey of Wilmington, Wayne Honts of Geneseo and Glenn Bailey of Nopomo, Calif.; six stepsisters, Mrs. Charlie (Patsy) Dilts of Avon, Mrs. Kenneth (Bonnie) Swanson of Cambridge, Mrs. Joshua (Vera) Williamson of Galesburg, Mrs. Cavitt (Betty) Hollis of Bushnell, Mrs. Ogie (Mable) Hefner of Delta, Mo., and Mrs. Rayburn (Naomi) Tedrow of Fairfield, Iowa; five grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two infant children and two sisters.
  He worked as a coal miner in the Ellisville and Galesburg areas, and as a millwright in factories throughout the Midwest. He was a police officer in Chicago and a Knox County deputy.
  A U.S. Army veteran, he graduated from the Crane Electrical College in Chicago with a degree in electrical engineering.
  He was raised in Parvil and also had lived for 30 years in Chicago, two years in Oquawka, East Galesburg and four years in Oneida before returning to Galesburg in September 1991. He was a volunteer worker at the Galesburg Rescue Mission, and a member of Carpenters Union Local 1693 in Chicago and the Oneida Senior Citizens.
  He also was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Galesburg.
  Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida. The Rev. James Snider will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.
  Memorials may be made to his church or to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.

Sudden Death Follows Coal Mine Accident
  Charles H. Bollinger, 47, passed away yesterday afternoon at Culbertson hospital following an accident at the D. & D. Coal Mine, Rushville.
  Born August 25, 1912, in Astoria, a son of Arch and Bertha Mae (Harris) Bollinger, he was married to Frances Carroll June 15, 1944, who survives.
  Other survivors include two step-daughters, Mrs. Violet Frank and Mrs. Frank Petterman, both of Rushville, two brothers, Dorman of Bushnell, Otis of Beard, Texas, and one sister, Mrs. Eunice Danner, of Astoria.
  Mr. Bollinger was preceded in death by two brothers.
  Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Astoria Church of the Brethren.  Rev. D. Edwin Rodabaugh will officiate, and burial will be in the Astoria cemetery.
  Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday until noon Friday at the Shawgo Memorial Home, then after 1 p.m. at the church Friday.

  Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. Edwin Rodabaugh in the Astoria Church of the Brethren Friday afternoon for Charles H. Bollinger, who died Tuesday afternoon after being injured in a cave-in at the D. & D. Mine near Rushville.
  Pall bearers included Glenn Bollinger, Ross Wilson, Clifford McCombs, Everett McWhorter, Arthur Reeder and Oniley Farwell.
  Burial was in Astoria cemetery.

  MURDOCK - Charles L. Bollinger, 86, died of a heart attack at his home here Wednesday.  Born Aug. 26, 1877, at Pittsburgh, Pa., he moved to the Murdock community in 1885 and had lived here since.  He married Edith Belle Warrell May 16, 1906, at Murdock.  He had extensive farm holdings in this area.
  Member:  Murdock Methodist Church.
  Survivors:  The widow; daughter, Mrs. Freda Sowers, Murdock; brother, Albert, and sister, Mrs. Mary Moorhouse, both of Cheney; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
  Funeral:  2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the church; Revs. Harold Cooper and R. A. Potter.  Burial:  Murdock Cemetery.

  Harvey Bollinger, 72 of The Elms Nursing Home in Macomb, formerly of the Bushnell area, died at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 1977, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
  He was born Aug. 21, 1905, in Astoria, the son of Ivan and Almeda Parks Bollinger.
  He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Alma McKahan of Bushnell, Mrs. Marie Huls of Milan and Mrs. Mayme Thrush of Astoria.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and one brother.
  Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Chapel in Bushnell with Rev. Ruby Whitten officiating.  Burial was in the Bushnell Cemetery.

  She had been missing since September. Her remains were found May 18, 2001, near Avon. Authorities are still investigating.
  She was born Sept. 2, 1982, in Macomb to Daryl and Donna Dilts Borders.
  Surviving are her parents of Bushnell; one son; one brother, Vance Borders at home; and her grandfather, Bud Borders of Bushnell.
  She was a member of Bushnell Baptist Church.

  PEKIN - Clela Belle Chambers Brown, 82, of Mulberry, Ind., formerly of Pekin, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 18, 1991, at her residence.
  Born May 2, 1909, in Vermont, Ill., to Edd and Ruth Hagan Stoops, she married Hurshel O. Chambers on Oct. 16, 1934, in Peoria, and he later died. She married Elmer L. Brown on March 30, 1946, in Chicago, and he later died. She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
  She is survived by two sons, James V. Chambers of LaFayette, Ind., and John E. Chambers of Arlington, Va.; and three grandchildren.
  She worked at the license branch of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles before retiring in 1974. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Endsley & Son Funeral Home, 1417 S. Stanley, Peoria, the Rev. Carl E. Bollinger officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Peoria.

  William and Charles Winner of Sheldons Grove received word of the death of their sister, Mrs. Noah (Alta May) Bucher, 67, who died at her home in Myerstown, Pa. on Monday, night, Nov. 17.
   She was born in Hickory Township on Jan. 2, 1902, to George and Mary Litchfield Winner.   She was the widow of Noah Bucher who died in 1959.
  Surviving are 2 sons Perry of Schaefferstown, Pa. and Franklin of Ephrata, Pa.; three brothers, William and Charles of Sheldons Grove and Harvey of Beardstown; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Charles, one sister and one brother.

  He was born Feb. 25, 1929, in Woodland Township, Fulton, Co., the son of Allen C. and Nelda A. (Kessler) Bucher. He married Maxine Williamson, Sept. 10, 1961, in Fairview. She survives.
  He is also survived by two daughters, Valerie (Leland) Rector, Ipava, and Veronda (Mark) Bailey, Astoria; one son, Brian (Stacy) Bucher, Astoria; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Irene (Willis) Shaw, Astoria, Maxine (Ralph) Cox, Astoria, Nedra Bollinger, Browning, Doris (Lewis) Baker, Astoria, and Bernice Wright, Astoria; and one brother, Dayle (Patricia) Bucher, Bedford, Iowa.
  He was preceded in death by his parents.
  He was a lifelong farmer in the Astoria area. He also worked as a Regional Salesman for Growers Fertilizer Solutions, was the manager of FS in Lewistown in the early 1970s, was a Realtor in the Macomb area in the late 1970s to the early 1980’s, and worked at the Vermont Foundry for 7 years.
  He served on the Woodland Cemetery Board for many years and was a former member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren.
  He was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War, serving from 1951 until 1953. He served as a Corporal (T) in Company A. 19th Infantry of the 24th Division. He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Army Occupation Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
  Cremation Rites will be accorded with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
  Memorials may be made to the Astoria Lion’s Club or the Astoria Library.

  ASTORIA - Barbara Elaine Williamson, 72, of Pensacola, Fla., formerly of Astoria, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at the home of her daughter in Brownsburg, Ind.
  She was born May 15, 1933, in Canton to Lyle and Bernice Walters Williamson.
  Surviving are one daughter, Susan Thomas of Brownsburg; two sons, Philip Butler and Paul Butler; six grandchildren; and one brother, Theodore Williamson.
  She attended Western Illinois University.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Brownsburg where visitation will be two hours before.
  A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Bushnell Cemetery. Arrangements are by Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg.
  Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Red Cross.

  Born Feb. 14, 1944, in Rushville to Robert and Delores Bankus Cameron, he married Sharon Kessler on Oct. 25, 1964, in Astoria. She survives.
  Also surviving are three sons, Robert (and Susan), Marty (and Wendy) and Steve (and Angie), all of Astoria; his mother, Delores Ford of Rushville; one sister, Mrs. Donald (Joy) Kempkes of Jacksonville, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
  He was a member and worked out of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 644 in Pekin.
  He also was a member of Love Center Church in Astoria.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria. The Revs. Nedra Bollinger and Gary Schultz will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

  CANTON - Glenn F. Cameron, 101, of Petersburg, formerly of Canton, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Sunny Acres Home in Petersburg.
  Born March 30, 1902, in Barnum, Minn., to Franklin and Eola Horney Cameron, he married Mattie Evans in 1937. She died in 1999.
  Surviving are two daughters, Jadora Grosboll of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Linda (and Dick) Creamer of Athens; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
  He owned and operated a photography studio in Canton for several years. He then was a photographer for the Illinois Department of Conservation for 10 years, retiring in 1974.
  Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at White Chapel Memory Gardens. The Rev. Rusty Beals will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home.

  ASTORIA - Services for William H. Carithers, 47, of rural Astoria, who died at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 1994, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. The Rev. Gary Sheets will officiate.
  He died after apparently fainting and striking his head while at work in Building KK at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria last week.
  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.
  Born May 20, 1946, in Vermont to Joseph E. and Mildred E. Schroder Carithers, he married Mary Ann Hopping. He married Nancy Phillips on Sept. 1, 1979, in Astoria. She survives.
  Also surviving are two sons, Mike and Wesley, both at home; two daughters, Michelle Scrogum of Champaign and Angela Chapman of Danville; two granddaughters; and two brothers, J. B. Carithers of Vermont and Cay B. Carithers of Mount Carmel. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
  He was employed at Caterpillar Inc. for 22 years. He also owned CCC Construction and B & N Storage, both in Astoria.
  He was a member of United Auto Workers Union Local 974. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
  Memorials may be made to an educational fund established for his children at Farmers State Bank & Trust Co. in Astoria or the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.

  GILSON - W. Dean Carlock, 71, of 1129 Knox Highway 27 died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 1999, in the OSF St. Mary Medical Center emergency room in Galesburg.
  Born Nov. 1, 1927, in Astoria to John and Gertrude Belless Carlock, he married Rose Marie Lovejoy on Feb. 24, 1957, in Macomb. She died Jan. 30, 1991. Surviving are two daughters, Risa Carlock of Gilson and Deanna Carlock of Chicago; one son, Russell of Galesburg; two sisters, Mrs. Don (Bonnie) Hudson of Kewanee and Mrs. Don (Frances) Ruebush of Macomb; and one brother, Harold of Industry.
  He was a farmer in Orange Township in Knox County.
  A Korean War Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 381 in Abingdon.
  Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville. Dean Mathews and the Rev. Blaine Wadlow will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery.

Obituary of Garry "Shug" Colton
  Garry "Shug" Colton, 50, Queen City, Missouri passed away unexpectedly Wednesday night (October 21, 1992) in the Emergency Room of Grim-Smith Hospital in Kirksville, MO.
  The son of Lloyd "Bud" and Rena Richmond Colton he was born in Kirksville, MO on August 31, 1932.  On December 31, 1961 in Queen City, MO he was united in marriage to Sharon Homer who survives.
  Also surviving are his mother Rena Kent of Queen City, MO, one son Steve Colton of Queen City, MO, two daughters Diane Colton of Bloomfield, IA, and Alicia Colton of Queen City, MO, one grandson Trevor Walker of Bloomfield, IA, one sister Shirley Bergman of Queen City, MO, a brother Roger Kent of Kirksville, MO, a grandmother Lema Richmond of Queen City, MO, five nephews and one niece.
  He was preceded in death by his father on July13, 1975, step-father Orrist Kent on December 29, 1989, a brother Larry Colton on October 12, 1990, a grandmother Lora Colton on August 2, 1974, grandfathers Guy Colton on October 9, 1960 and Noah Richmond on December 23, 1989.
  Shug attended the Sidney and Brassfield Rural Schools in Putnam County and the Worthington Elementary School.  He attended the Queen City High School graduating with the Class of 1961.  Following graduation he worked in the rock quarry, later working for McGraws, John Deere and for eleven years lived and farmed south of Lancaster.  For fifteen and one-half years he worked for Donaldson's in Kirksville.  Upon the closing of the Donaldson Plant he moved to his present residence in Queen City where he owned and operated "Shug's" Body Shop.
  He was a member of the Queen City Christian Church where funeral services were held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon (October 24, 1992) conducted by the Reverend Bill Price of Kirksville.  Music was provided by  Schelle Cooley singing "Supper Time" and "The Old Rugged Cross."  She was accompanied on the piano by Marie Van Bebber.  Internment was in the Queen City Cemetery.
  Pallbearers were Darrel Engle, Kelly Groseclose, James (Peach) Bergman, Dan McClellan, Dale Lawson and Jim Hamilton.
  Honorary bearers were Steve March, Wayne Pierson, Mark Macomber, John Applegate, Jerod Lake and John March.
  Visitation was after 4:00 P. M. Friday afternoon (October 23, 1992) until the time of service at the Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, MO, 766-2241.

  LONDON MILLS - Donald R. Cook, 68, died at 10:26 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 1995, at his residence.
  Born on Oct. 3, 1927, in London Mills to Lawrence Jerold and Esther Dell Shumard Cook, he married Shirley DeSpain on Jan. 14, 1956, in Monmouth. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Donald E. Cook Jr. of London Mills; four daughters, Vicki L. DeVerna of California, Mary E. Lowe of Avon, Patricia D. Cook of California and Barbara A. Corry of Dahinda; one brother, Everett Cook of Avon; one sister, Roberta Wyatt of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by one brother.
  A lifelong resident of the London Mills community, he retired from Maytag Corp., where he worked for many years.
  He was a member of IAM Union No. 2063. An Army veteran, he was a member of the Bloomington American Legion.

  Born April 9, 1923, in Canton to Forrest and Marguerite Dissman Gnott, she married Evan Griffith. She later married Lawrence Cook. He died in May 2000.
  She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Michaela Cook.
  Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Griffith-Myers (and Van Myers) of Canton; one sister, Betty (and Maurice) Pescitelli of Hartwell, Ga.; one foster brother, John Aultman; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.
  She worked for International Harvester in Canton for 32 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Retired Harvester Girls Club.
  She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton and Job's Daughters.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, where visitation will be one hour before. The Rev. Shane Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Apple Cemetery in Lewistown.

  Born Jan. 5, 1922, in Canton to Ernest ''Bob'' and Minnie Eyerly Cook, he married Edna Ryan. He later married Frankelee Nott Griffith on Dec. 26, 1966, in Canton. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Larry of Peoria; one daughter, Kathy Lock of Canton; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
  One infant daughter, Michelle Cook; three sisters; and one brother preceded him in death.
  A member of IHC Retirees Club, he worked for International Harvester Co. in Canton for 40 years, retiring in 1982. He also served as a union steward at the company.
  He served as a Ward 4 alderman for the City of Canton from 1971 to 1977.
  He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1984 and Canton Masonic Lodge.
  A Masonic service will be at 2 p.m. today at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where funeral services will follow. The Rev. Paul Walles will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the Masonic service at the funeral home. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens.

  LONDON MILLS - Lawrence "Jerald" Cook, 88, of 2000 W. Martin St. died at 7:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1993, at the Care Center of Abingdon in Abingdon.
  Born April 23, 1905, in London Mills to Firmon and Mary White Cook, he married Esther Shumard on April 28, 1923, in Monmouth. She died Aug. 13, 1973. He also was preceded in death by one son, two grandsons, one brother and two sisters.
  Surviving are two sons, Everett H. of Avon and Donald R. of London Mills; one daughter, Roberta Wyatt of Abingdon; 17 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ethel Morgan of Galesburg, Bernice Melton of Abingdon and Mary Zinn of Knoxville.
  He was a lifelong resident of the London Mills community where he farmed for many years. He also worked at the Abingdon Brass Factory for 29 years.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in London Mills. The Rev. Loren Abney will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Corman Memorial Home in London Mills. Burial will be in East Midway Cemetery in rural London Mills.

  Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

  She was a former member of London Mills United Brethren Church and a member of the United Methodist Church in Knoxville, where she was active with church circles.
  She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 880, American Legion Auxiliary Harry Philblad Post 749, the Bunco clubs in Knoxville and Galesburg, the Senior Citizens Club of Knoxville and OAKS in Galesburg.

  She was born March 16, 1908, near Prairie City, the daughter of Clarence James and Nellie Sweney Homer.
  She married E. Ray Cowperthwaite on Dec. 31, 1927, in Bushnell. He died June 7,1984.  Surviving are one sister, Bernice Homer Wagner, Macomb; one nephew and five nieces. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
  She was a charter member and past president of the Bushnell Business and Professional Women's Club, past matron of the Lucille Chapter Order of Eastern Star 361, and a member and elder of Bushnell Presbyterian Church.
  She was a member of Chapter X of PEO, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Carnegie Mutual Federated Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the National Retail Grocers Association.
  Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bushnell Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert Hollor officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Bardolph Cemetery. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, is in charge of arrangements.

  Keith Crum, 52, rural Meredosia, died Friday afternoon, July 8, 2005, at his residence.
  He was born Nov. 6, 1952, in Avon, the son of Leroy and Evelyn (Root) Crum. He married Terrie Jones Sept. 23, 1978, in Meredosia. She survives.
  He is also survived by one brother, Alan (Linda) Crum, Waynesville; one niece; two grandnieces and one grandnephew.
  He graduated from Bushnell-Prairie City High School and Illinois College. He taught in the Meredosia-Chambersburg School system for many years, where he coached varsity boy’s basketball and the junior high girl’s basketball teams. He worked for Burrus Seed Farm, during the summer, supervising the youth laborers. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Rushville.
  He was president of Mississippi Valley Morgan Horse Club and a member of American Morgan Horse Association and Illinois Horse and Pony Breeder's and Exhibitors Association. He was a past member of Brunk Morgan Museum Board.
  He managed several horse shows and was instrumental in the Mississippi Valley Morgan Horse Club spring sale. He had a particular passion for showing in hand and driving horses in horse shows.
  A celebration of Keith's life was held Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at 110 N. East St. in Jacksonville.

Two Men Killed In Crash Early Monday Morning
  Two persons were killed and one injured in a truck-motorcycle accident early Monday morning on Route 100 two miles east of Frederick.
  Both riders of the motorcycle were killed.  They were Robert Knous, 30, of Beardstown and Michael Bollinger, 23, of rural Browning.  Driver of the truck, Donald Pratt, Jr., 26, of Beardstown, was injured and brought to Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
  The accident occurred about 12:45 a.m. when the eastbound truck collided with the westbound motorcycle.  It was not determined which man was driving the motorcycle.  According to police the two vehicles collided head on and all three men were thrown from the vehicles which caught fire and burned.
Schuyler Coroner Fred Green states that an inquest is pending and will be scheduled in near future.
  Funeral services for Bollinger were held on Wednesday at Central Christian church in Browning with the Rev. James Cook officiating.  Burial was in Browning cemetery.  Worthington funeral home was in charge of arrangements.  Services for Knous were held on Wednesday morning at Northcutt funeral home in Beardstown and burial was in the Beardstown city cemetery.
  Bollinger was born in Beardstown February 16, 1954, a son of Richard Wayne and Dora J. Bollinger.
Surviving are his parents of rural Browning; two brothers, Wendell and Rick, both of Beardstown; two sisters, Mrs. Bruce (Anita) Mercer of Vermont and Miss Melanie at home; paternal grandparents, Herschel and Mildred of Browning, and maternal grandfather, Joseph Young of Morrison, Oklahoma.
He was a graduate of Rushville High School and attended United Electronics college in Louisville, KY.  He was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad.
Memorials may be made to Culbertson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Rushville.
  Knous was born in Beardstown on June 7, 1947, the son of Charles and Verna Knous.  He married Candace Ransom in Beardstown December 27, 1966.  She survives.  Also surviving are his parents of Beardstown; four children, Annette, 9, Robbie, 6, Nickie, 5 and Chad 2 all at home; and one sister Mrs. Bernice Mathis of Beardstown.

Two Killed In Accident
  Two persons were killed and one was hospitalized following a head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck early Monday morning on Illinois 100, 2-1/2 miles east of Frederick.
  Dead at the scene of the accident were the riders of the motorcycle, Robert Knous, 30, of Beardstown and Michael Bollinger, 23, of Browning.
  An occupant in the pick-up truck, Donald S. Pratt, Jr., 26, of Beardstown, was listed in satisfactory condition at Culbertson Memorial Hospital at 10 a.m. Monday.
  The accident is still under investigation by Macomb state police.  Both vehicles were destroyed by fire, the state police said, and it is not known which of the two men killed was the driver of the motorcycle or whether Pratt was the only occupant of the truck.
  The pick-up truck was eastbound on the highway and the motorcycle was westbound when the head-on collision occurred.  All occupants were thrown from their vehicles, state police said.
  The accident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m.
  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Central Christian Church in Browning for Michael Bollinger, 23, of rural Browning.  Burial will follow in Browning Cemetery.

  She attended Monmouth College.
  A graduate of Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb, she was the music supervisor for Warren County rural schools.
  She also directed the rural school music festival from 1938 to 1958.
  She taught first and second grade at Kirkwood and later in Yorkwood School District, retiring in 1974.
  She also taught piano lessons from her home for many years.
  She was a member of the Mary Lincoln Chapter of the Order of Easter Star, where she held various offices.
  She was a member of OES Smithshire United Methodist Church, where she was the pianist for 50 years and served as president of the Smithshire United Methodist Women.

  He married Virginia R. Sweney on Aug. 3, 1940, in Canton.
  Surviving are his wife, in Bushnell; one son, Lloyd A. Effland, Quincy; two daughters, Carolyn Hays, Macomb, and Ruth Ann Smith, Galva; two brothers, Kenneth Effland, Avon, and Clemon Effland, Marshall; one sister, Esther Whitsell, Riverside, Calif.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
  He was reared in the Ellisville and London Mills areas.
  He worked at the Abingdon Pottery, and the Ammunition Depot in Burlington, Iowa. After the war he farmed for 13 years near Farmington, moved in 1959 to the Bardolph area to farm, and in 1977 moved to LaGrange, where he operated G&M Electronics until 1997, when he returned Bushnell.
  He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II, flying 18 combat missions over occupied France and Belgium, as well as Germany.
  He was a member of the Bushnell Odd Fellows and the London Mills American Legion.
  Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Corman Memorial Home, Avon, with the Rev. Terry Broady officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Death of Mrs. Sol Emig, of Near Table Grove Occurs Saturday Night; Funeral Tuesday
  Bessie Nell Emig nee Elgin, was born in Woodland township near Astoria, Ill., Jan. 5, 1887, and died at her home near Table Grove, Jan. 26, 1918, age 31 years and 21 days.
  For seven years she has been a constant sufferer from sugar diabetes, which was the immediate cause of her death.
  She was united in marriage to Solomon Emig, Jan. 2, 1902.  This union was blessed with three daughters, Stella, age 15, Cathrine, age 12 and Della, age 11. These with her husband, parents, one brother, Geo. H., and two sisters, Mrs. S. G. Bucher and Mrs. W. O. Parry all of Astoria with a host of relatives and friends are left to mourn her loss.
  Mrs. Emig bore her suffering patiently, forgetting her own to help those that were near and dear to her.
  She was a kind and faithful wife and loving mother and will be greatly missed in the home where she was so much needed.  All that loving hands could do was done, but nothing could stay the hand of death.

  ASTORIA - Ruby F. Etter, 87, of 318 W. Broadway died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
  Born Aug. 31, 1909, in Schuyler County to Artie and Nettie Fetch Chapman, she married Donald E. Peter {Etter} on May 16, 1935, in Oregon, Ill. He died Aug. 2, 1993. One great-grandson also preceded her in death.
  Surviving are four daughters, Jeanne Hartman, Judy Grafton and Joyce Palmer, all of Rushville, and Joanne Heath of Adair; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
  She was a bookkeeper. She was a member of Astoria Christian Church.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Dan Ormond will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

  Also surviving are one son, Clifford of Greybull, Wyo.; one brother, John of Bushnell; two sisters, Nellie Walls of Bushnell and Margie Hollenback of Adair; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
  Two daughters, Brenda Goddard and Shirley Lofton, and two brothers preceded him in death.
  He was a truck driver in the Bushnell area. He later worked for the City of Casper, Wyo, for 12 years. He returned to Bushnell in 1988, where he operated Star Mail Route, retiring in 1996. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bushnell Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen Storms will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home.

  Born Dec. 31, 1910, in Lewistown to Squire Humphrey and Dell J. Butler, she married Edward Gott on March 18, 1934, in Peoria. He died Sept. 13, 1985. One daughter, Mary Gott, also preceded her in death.
  Surviving are three daughters, Jane A. Phillips of Peoria, Sharon Romanek of Indianapolis and Judith Hunter of Glasford; one son, Edward R. of Morton; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
  A 1932 graduate of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center School of Nursing, she served as a registered nurse in the Peoria area for more than 45 years before retiring.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cumerford-Endsley-Diggle Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl J. Bollinger will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Hickory Cemetery in Enion.

  Dean W. Grissom, a lifetime resident of Astoria, died at noon Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Culbertson Hospital in Rushville.  Ha was 65 years of age.
  Mr. Grissom was a retired CTPS line patrolman, having worked for the company for 20 years.  He was a member of the Astoria Christian Church.
  Mr. Grissom was born Jan., 26, 1903 in Astoria.  He was the son of John and Elizabeth Trone Grissom.  On Oct. 7, 1932 he was married to Glenna Gruber, who survives.
Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lena Bucy of Astoria and Mrs. Lula Moss of Havana.
  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Joseph Gift officiating.  Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.

  She was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Swan Township, Warren County, the daughter of Arthur and Mertie (McLaughlin) Millard. She married Harold Groves, Sept. 20, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died Sept. 17, 1996.
  She is survived by one daughter, Nadine Groves, Astoria; one son, Dwane (Ruby Neff) Groves, East Galesburg; one grandson, Jeremy Groves, Avon; two granddaughters, Michelle (Marty) Shaw, Astoria, and Amy Groves, Murray, Utah; two great-grandsons, J. R. and Michael Shaw, both of Astoria; and several nieces and nephews.
  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother Harold Millard and two sisters, Merle Scott and Bernice Snell.
  She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, quilting, and attending quilt shows. She also enjoyed gardening and preserving fruits and vegetables for the winter months.
  She was a 1935 graduate of Roseville High School.
  She was a former member of the Astoria Homemakers Extension, the Ipava Presbyterian Quilters and the Busy Day Club. She was also a former 4-H leader in the Astoria Area.
  Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, with the Rev. Gary Sheets, officiating.
  Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery, Astoria.
  Memorials may be made to the Astoria Township Cemetery Association.

  She was born December 21, 1900, in Avon, the daughter of William and Lillious Mitchell Kreps.  She married John W. Harris January 4, 1920, in St. Augustine.  He died in 1967.
  Mrs. Harris lived most of her life in the Roseville and Avon communities and was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church.
  She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Belva Lewis of Monmouth; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, five sisters and two brothers.
  Funeral services were held at the Corman Memorial Home in Avon on December 23 with the Rev. James Oliver officiating.  Burial was in the Avon Cemetery.

  James E. Heath, 77, of Kirksville, MO, died Tuesday (December 12, 2000) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
  The son of Lester and Ruby (Bridges) Heath, he was born November 6, 1923 in Elwood, MO.  On January 21, 1956 he Married Mary Jean Homer and two children were born to the union.
  He is survived by one son, Mike Heath and his wife Barb of Keizer, OR; one daughter, LaNita Heath of Kirksville, MO; one brother, Bill Heath and wife Roseanne of Topeka, KS; one sister, Jimmi Kay Rone and husband Steve of Fairplay, MO; and six grandchildren, Stephene, Sara Shaun, D. J., Jonathan and Ryan.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, and two sisters.
  Jim was raised in Stockton, MO and attended public school.  After his education he moved to IL, where he worked for several years as a truck driver.  Moving back to MO in the early 60's, he opened a plumbing shop in Queen City.  In the late 60's he moved south of Kirksville and owned and operated the Triple-J Tavern.  In 98 he moved to Novinger and worked for the Special Road District as a truck driver. He later worked for the "Green Thumb" construction program until his retirement.
  He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Moberly, MO.
  Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday (December 15, 2000) at Fohn Funeral Home.  Reverend Virgil Jones will officiate, with musical selections "Amazing Grace," Wide Open Spaces" and "Daddy's Hands." Burial will be in Greencastle Cemetery.

  Mrs. Eliza Katheryn Heaton, died Monday morning at the home of Miss Mary Haines where she had made her home since spring.  Death came to her at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 27 days and was the results of several complications.  She had made Vermont, Illinois, her home all of her life with the exception of a few years residence in Canton, Illinois with her son, Paul.
  Eliza K. Heaton, a daughter of Isreal and Anna Hill, was born in Oakland Township, Schuyler County, Illinois, December 21st, 1869, passed away October 18th, 1937, age 67 years, 9 months and 27 days.  She was married to Andrew J. Heaton on February 26, 1891, who preceded her in death, March 4th, 1929.  Two children were born to the union, Clifford S. of Ipava, Illinois and Paul T. of Canton, Illinois.  She is survived by these two sons and four grandchildren, one brother, J. N. Hill of Taylorville, Illinois, and two sisters, Debbie Young of Industry, Illinois, and Cora Holmberg of Los Angeles, Califonia.  Most of her life was spent in or near Vermont, Illinois.  There are three sisters and one brother deceased.

Nelson, Walter Schroder and Geo. Carrick.  A chorus and a quartette, Myre Geer and Vieve Francis and W. F. Bader and F. G. Gilson, sang some beautiful numbers including the Old Rugged Cross and Shadows.  Interment was in the Vermont, Il. cemetery.

  Mrs. Nellie M. Heaton, 80, of Vermont, died at Culbertson Memorial Hospital Sunday.
  Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with the Rev. Dan Caulkins officiating.  Burial was in the Vermont Cemetery.
  She was born June 12, 1898, in McDonough county, the daughter of Albert and Iva Skiles Morrell.  She married Roy R. Heaton in Fort Madison, Iowa May 16, 1916.  He died July 17, 1965.
  Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Nedra) Andrews of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Wherley of Table Grove, Mrs. Rodney (Louise) Parr and Mrs. Wanda Brown, both of Vermont; three sons, Franklin Heaton of rural Rushville, Stanley Heaton of rural Industry and James Heaton of Table Grove; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by one daughter, one grandchild and one sister.
  She was a member of the Baptest church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 26.

Roxie L. Heaton Dies At Age Of 90
  Macomb - Roxie L. Heaton, 90 of 727 Stadium Drive died at 4:21 a.m. yesterday in McDonough District Hospital.
  Born March 3, 1890, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Benjamin and Suzanna Engel Stroops, she married Ross I. Heaton Aug. 10, 1910, in Schuyler County.  He died October 7, 1977.
  She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was a past chaplain of the Grandmother's Club.  She was a member of War Dad's Auxiliary and a charter member of Navy Mother's Club.  She operated a popcorn stand in downtown Macomb for more than 10 years.
  Surviving are eight sons, Bernard of Moline, Irvin of Kewanee, Vivian of Macomb, Vernon of Quincy, Virgil of Le Claire, Iowa, Ross J. of Des Moines, Iowa, William of Quincy, and Benjamin of Wheaton; four daughters, Mrs. Harold (Maxine) Springer of Alburnett, Iowa, Mrs. Dale (Doris) Tippett of Macomb, Mrs. Ariel Simmons of Rantoul, and Mrs. Alvidore (Betty Nelle) Meachum of Canton.
  Also surviving are 42 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; on great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Clugston Funeral Home, the Rev. Edward Hoffman officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
  Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m.
  Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.

  Smithfield - Ruth A. Heaton, 93, of 175 Sycamore Drive, Lewistown, formerly of Smithfield, died at 2:25 a.m. Friday (November 2, 2001) at the Prairie View Care Center in Lewistown.
  Born July 10, 1908, in Canada, the daughter of Earl and Mable (Hunter) David, she married Ralph Heaton on March 16, 1927.  He preceded her in death.
  She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Scott, Ralph and Ivan David, and three sisters, Ella Heaton, Katie Emery Brown and Billie Hunt.
  Survivors include two nephews, Martin David of Marietta and Edwin David of Havana; five nieces, Mable Arnett of Little American, Barbara Hopkins of San Antonio, Texas, Ruby Hayner of Virginia Beach, Va., Myra Loy Fleming of East Peoria, and Rose Marie Pricett of New London, Iowa; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
  She was a telephone at the Smithfield office for 30 years.  She was a member of the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene.
  Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene, the Rev. Layton Malone officiating.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be at Baughman Cemetery in Smithfield.
  Memorials may be made to her church.

Vivian W. "Viv" Heaton
  Vivian W. "Viv" Heaton, 81, a resident of the Sprucewood Health Care Center in Macomb, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, June 28, 1996 at the care center.
  He was born Dec. 23, 1914 in Vermont to Ross and Roxie (Stroops) Heaton.  He first married Dorothy Yaap on August 22, 1936.  She prececed him in death on Jan. 21, 1973.  He later married Betty Nelson on March 8, 1975.  She survives.
  He is also survived by one son, Marshall Heaton of Crossville, Tenn.; four daughters, Norene Kelly of Cody, Wyoming, Carol Treadwell of Arcadia, Fla., Kay Heaton and Margaret Sowers, both of Macomb; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Maxine Springer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Doris Tippet of Macomb, Ariel Dakin of Macomb and Betty Meachum of Canton; seven brothers Bernard of Moline, Irvin of Toulon, Vernon of Quincy, Virgil of LeClaire, Iowa, Ross of Des Moines, Iowa, Bill of Quincy and Ben of Wheaton.
  He was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Albert Heaton.
  Mr. Heaton had lived most all of his life in the Macomb, Industry and Vermont areas.  He had worked as the Manager for the Illinois Theater for many years and later worked as the custodian for the Macomb Journal.
  Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at the Industry Cemetery with the Rev. James Stovall officiating.
  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at the Clugston-Tibbits Funeral Home in Macomb.
  Memorials may be made to the Senior Citizens Tranportation Bus in Macomb.
