1918; a little daughter, Mary Bell, died in infancy.
Mrs. Bair was well known and loved by all who knew her.
She was a person of sweet disposition and it was a pleasure to be with
her, even in her last weeks of intense suffering. She was so
patient, kind and thoughtful, always asking if meals were prepared for
those who came in to see her. She was a home loving woman, always
ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
When a young girl, she joined the Lutheran church in Penn.
When the great battle of Gettysburg was fought, she with her sister
helped cook for the soldiers and was on her feet two days and
nights. When speaking of it her eyes would fill with tears, you
could see how her heart had suffered in those days of war, but now all
this is over and God has said, Thy work is done, come up higher.
The Angels have taken my mother,
To the land where no sorrow will come,
There she waits and watches for another,
To welcome her loved ones home.
Oh, me thinks I can see my dear mother,
As she waits on the glittering strand,
I can see the brought crown on her forehead,
And the gleam of her beckoning hand.
