Obituary of Harvey Sherman Bubb I

  ASTORIA - Harvey S. Bubb Sr., 95, of Astoria died at 9:04 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Astoria Healthcare Center.
  Born Aug. 11, 1903, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, to Jesse and Sarah Bucher Bubb, he married Verna Horton on Sept. 15, 1923, in Astoria. She died Aug. 14, 1983. He also was preceded in death by two grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.
  Surviving are four daughters, Margery McMullen of Ipava, Helen Wright of Williamsville, Marilyn "Peg" Danner of Astoria and Shirley Smith of Whitehall; one son, Harvey Jr. of Bethany, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest of St. Joseph, Mich., and Eldon of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and one sister, Flora Anderson of Chula Vista, Calif.
  A teacher, he taught at Possum Hollow School near Astoria in the early 1920's and also worked at Bubb Produce in Astoria. He worked as a superintendent for the post engineer at Camp Ellis in Ipava in 1942. He worked as a bookkeeper for Rouland Trucking in Jacksonville.
  He wrote a column, "Possum Hollow Nostalgia" for the Argus Searchlight in Astoria. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
  He was a member of the Astoria Church of the Brethren.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. The Rev. Gary Schultz will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.

  ASTORIA - Harvey S. Bubb Sr., 95, of Astoria, formerly of Litchfield, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Astoria Healthcare, Astoria.

  ASTORIA - Sherman R. Bucher, 92, of 312 W. State died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Astoria Manor.
  Born Dec. 16, 1909, in Astoria to Cyrus G. and Mabel Miller Bucher, he married Elizabeth Horton on Feb. 11, 1935, in Peoria. She survives.
  Also surviving are two sons, Mike of Clancy, Mont., and Roger (and Pat) of Rochester; one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Ann) Robinson of St. Charles; two sisters, Mildred Foutch of Astoria and Eunice Keim of Metamora; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; two brothers; and one sister.
  He farmed until retiring in 1965. He then sold securities, insurance and real estate as an independent agent.
  He was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren.
  He also was a member of Vermont Masonic Lodge 116 and Ipava Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 226.
  He had served on the Astoria Community School Board from 1958 to 1964 and on the Woodland Cemetery Board from 1949 to 1990.
  He also had served as Fulton County Regional School trustee from 1969 to 1995, Astoria Township trustee from 1967 to 1992 and Woodland School trustee from 1943 to 1957.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Gary Sheets will officiate. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home, where visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to Astoria Rescue Squad.

  Otis E. Bucy, 73, of Springfield died at 2 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Hospital.
  He was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Vermont, the son of John and Erma Horner Bucy. He married Audrey Danner in 1948 in Rock Island. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Bucy was a retired mechanic from the Army National Guard in Springfield.
  In addition to his wife, surviving are one son, Larry O. of Marshall, Ark.; two daughters, Mrs. John (Barbara) Westerfeld of Libertyville and Mrs. Anthony (Deborah) Gureski of Shell Knobb, Mo.; seven brothers; two sisters, one half-brother; two half-sisters; and seven grandchildren.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Vermont United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery.

  Mildred L. Bucy, 85, of Astoria, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
  She was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Lewistown, the daughter of Charles B. and Blanche (Cozine) Purman.  She married Dwight E. Bucy July 11, 1936 in Peoria.  He preceded her in death April 8, 1990.
  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Faye Sill.
  She is survived by one daughter, Linda (husband, Jerry) Schisler of Astoria; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
  She was a homemaker and member of the Astoria United Methodist Church.
  Services were held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with the Rev. Marian Stone officiating.  Internment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown.
  Memorials may be made to the Astoria United Methodist Church.

  ASTORIA - Beverly Jack Butler, 72, of 2500 N. Illinois Route 100 died at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
  Born March 6, 1927, in Astoria to Lyle D. and Greeta Horner Butler, he married Nancy Osborne on Aug. 27, 1949, in Astoria. She survives.
  Also surviving are his mother of Astoria; one son, Craig of Houston; two daughters, Suzanne Samarghandi of Cincinnati and Julia Asheim of London, England; three brothers, Thomas of Astoria, Lyle Jr. of San Diego and Rodney of Fenton, Mo.; two sisters, Virginia McCausland of Lewistown and Amy Hollingsworth of Urbana; and four granddaughters.
  His father and one daughter, Cheri, preceded him in death.
  He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Navy V-12 program at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
  He was a member of the Delta Chapter of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity at the University of Illinois.
  He was a professor of Agricultural Engineer at the University of Illinois from 1958 to 1983, where he was awarded the W.L. Everett Teaching Excellence Award and the Stanley Pierce Award.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Astoria. The Revs. Phillip Glick and Marian Stone will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery in Bluff City. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
  Memorials may be made in his name to the Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Illinois or to Sheldon Grove United Methodist Church.

  LINCOLN - The Private Family Service Of Jeffrey Scott Butler, 28, recently of Kenya, Africa, a Lincoln native, is today at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Mayview.
  There will be no visitation.
  A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Covenant Fellowship Church, 124 W. White St., Champaign, the Rev. Donald D. Follis officiating.
  He died Sept. 3, 1993, from gunshot wounds sustained during a night attack by unidentified assailants on the UNICEF compound in Wajir, in northeast Kenya, 70 miles from the Somalia border. He was quickly attended to by doctors and was evacuated by air to Nairobi, where he died of internal bleeding shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
  Mr. Butler was born Aug. 14, 1965, in Lincoln, a son of missionary parents, Ron and Carolyn Butler, involved with the African Christian Mission, working in eastern Zaire. They are presently on leave in the United States, residing in Urbana.
  Also surviving are one brother, Greg Butler, Springfield; one sister, Suellen Shay, Cape Town, South Africa, who teaches at the University of Cape Town; maternal grandparents, Harry and Lucille Black, Kell; and paternal grandmother, Ruby Butler, Astoria.
  Mr. Butler joined Air Serv International in February 1992 and first served as an aircraft mechanic in Ethiopia. He then transferred to Mozambique as a pilot-mechanic. While there he flew for several relief agencies including World Vision, Red Cross, Tear and Habitat.
  In July of this year he transferred to Wajir, Kenya, to fly Air Serv's Cessna Caravan for UNICEF and other international agencies assisting Somali refugees and the local people in the northeast corner of Kenya. In January 1993, Mr. Butler was commended by a relief agency in Mozambique for his help and courage in singlehandedly saving two youths and an older man from drowning in the sea at Madal Beach, Quelimane.
  Mr. Butler was a graduate of Rift Valley Academy, Kijabe, Kenya; attended Belleville Area College, Belleville; and was a graduate of Cincinnati Technical College in Ohio with a degree in aviation technology. He had commercial pilot, instrument and flight instructor licenses. He had approximately 2,200 hours of flight time, with 1,100 hours with Air Serv International.
  He was a member of Vinyard Church, Cincinnati.

Obituary of Isaac "Larry" Lawrence Camp

  SPRINGFIELD - Isaac Lawrence "Larry" Camp, 91, of Springfield died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
  He was born Oct. 20, 1906, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, the son of Charles Enyart and Anna Mae Gouker Martin Camp. He married Louise W. Hofferbert in 1940; she preceded him in death in 1977.
  Mr. Camp, a resident of Springfield since 1945, taught school for 18 years in Fulton, Schuyler and Tazewell Counties. He was employed as an insurance claims adjuster for Country Companies for 26 years.
  He was a 1925 graduate of Astoria High School and Western Illinois Teachers College in 1932 with a bachelor's of education degree. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as Sunday school secretary for 22 years and was a church elder for 10 years. He was an active member of the P.T.A. serving as president at Lanphier in 1963. He was a member of the District Scholarship Commission and a member of the Juvenile Protection Springfield Council. He was a past president of the Joe Delong Little League. He was active with the "Redcoat" escort service at Memorial Medical Center and as an instructor for the secretary of state's "Rules of the Road" classes. He was a member of the Mayor's Senior Citizen Commission and a tour guide at the Old State Capitol. He donated time to the Senior Citizens Building at the Illinois State Fair and helped fill out circuit breaker and income tax forms. In addition to the service he gave R.S.V.P., he was a member of the Evening Kiwanis Club since 1966 and served as secretary/treasurer for the Northend Club for 22 years. He worked with the YMCA Youth Soccer Program and volunteered his help to School District 186 at Lincoln, Wilcox, Matheny and Dubois schools.
  He was named 1987 Volunteer of the Year by the United Way of Sangamon County and the Senior Citizens of Sangamon County. In 1991 he received the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award. He was named Usher of the Year at Sangamon State University, and was given the Colonel Sanders Volunteer Award in 1984, and the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame Award in 1982.
  Survivors: a son, Larry Camp of Monticello; a daughter, Karen Birnbaum of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
  Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home, the Rev. Theodore Gall officiating. Burial: Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

  ASTORIA - Dr. Bernard D. Campbell, 74, of 302 E. Broadway died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at his residence.
  Born March 14, 1924, in Astoria to Ora Lee and Ola Mae Priest Campbell, he married Margaret F. Barrett on Sept. 6, 1952, in Astoria. She died June 3, 1985. He married Charlotte Fleming on March 14, 1988, in Lakeland, Fla. She survives.
  Also surviving are two sons, Terry of Macon, Ga., and David of Astoria; one daughter, Mrs. Kent (Jan) Boucher of Springfield; one stepson, Robert Fleming of Ipava; one sister, Imogene Johnson of Mountain Home, Ark.; and four grandchildren.
  One brother, one sister and one infant sister preceded him in death.
  A World War II Army veteran, he was a member and past commander of Astoria American Legion Post 25. He was a veterinarian in Astoria from 1952 to 1987. He was a life member of American Veterinary Medical Association and Illinois Veterinary Medical Association. He also was a member and past president of Central Illinois Veterinary Medical Association.
  He served on the Astoria Unit School Board of Education for 12 years.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Collis Trone will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to his American Legion post or to McDonough District Hospital Hospice in Macomb.

  ASTORIA - John D. Campbell, 72, of Astoria died at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1992, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
  Born Feb. 22, 1920, in Astoria to Ora Lee and Ola Mae Priest Campbell, he married Virginia Scott on Nov. 27, 1942, in Louisiana, Mo. She survives.
  Also surviving are two daughters, Sherilyn Pazara of Havana and Sally Caudle of Canton; two sisters, Imogene Johnson of Mountain Home, Ark., and Virginia Flood of Astoria; one brother, Bernard of Astoria; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
  He was a farmer and a former member of the Astoria Fire Department and the Knights of Pythias Lodge. He was a member of Astoria Church of Christ and was a former precinct committee chairman for the Republican Party.
  Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Collis Trone will officiate. Calling hours will be this afternoon and evening at the memorial home where family visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

  ASTORIA - Virginia D. Campbell, 71, of Astoria died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 1994, at her residence.
  Born Dec. 10, 1922, in Ripley to John C. and Irene Ward Scott, she married John D. Campbell on Nov. 27, 1942, in Louisiana, Mo. He died Aug. 12, 1992.
  Surviving are her mother of Astoria; two daughters, Sherilyn Pazara of Havana and Sally Spatafore of Canton; one brother, Richard Scott of Bushnell; and four grandchildren.
  She worked at Stevens Publishing Co. for 10 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of Astoria Church of Christ, Harmony Rebekah Lodge 53 of Vermont and the former Pythian Sisters Lodge of Astoria.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Collis Trone will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the memorial home, where Harmony Rebekah Lodge services will at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

  ABINGDON - Irma C. Cannon, 79, of 300 N. Jefferson St., formerly of London Mills, died at 5:44 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1993, in the emergency room at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
  Born Feb. 25, 1913, in Schuyler County to W. R. and Katharine Naught Davis, she married Herman R. Cannon on Nov. 16, 1931, in Rushville. He died Feb. 27, 1969. One son, Lloyd, three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
  Surviving are one son, William of Murphysboro; one daughter, Marjorie I. Moshier of Abingdon; one sister, Virginia Davis of Springfield; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
  She and her husband farmed near London Mills for 40 years. She was also a cook for the former Kirsch's and Junction Restaurants.
  She was a member of Busy Bees in London Mills and Mothers of World War II. She attended London Mills United Methodist Church and Abingdon United Methodist Church.
  Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West, Abingdon Chapel. The Rev. George Wilson will officate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg.

  ADAIR - Ethel H. Carrison, 85, of rural Adair died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 1993, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
  Born June 15, 1908, in Astoria Township, Fulton County, to Edward and Martha Olson Walters, she married Harry Carrison in Galesburg. He preceded her in death. She later married Howard Carrison in Rock Island. He survives in Quincy.
  Also suriving are one son, Dale of Mankato, Minn.; and three granddaughters. One brother preceded her in death.
  A member of the Retired Teachers Association and American Association of Retired Persons, she taught in the Illinois public school system for 30 years.
  She also was a member of the former United Methodist Church in Adair. She attended Astoria United Methodist Church.
  Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. There will be no visitation. Cremation has been accorded.

  Helen G. Carter, 87, of Rosewood Care Center, formerly of 1201 W. Northmoor, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 1993, at the center.
  She was born May 27, 1906, in Astoria to James and Esther McClelland Carter.
  Surviving are one foster daughter, Ingrid Anderson of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. Five sisters, one brother and one nephew preceded her in death.
  A life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, she worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 46 years, last working as a switchboard operator before retiring in 1971.
  Private graveside services will be Tuesday at Swan Lake Memory Gardens. The Rev. L. Scott Huson will officiate. Davison-Fulton Western Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

  ASTORIA - Ruth P. Clanin, 101, of 1008 E. Broadway died at 6:31 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
  Born July 14, 1901, in Summum to Edward and Minnie Danner Spangler, she married Clare Clanin on June 2, 1923, in Astoria. He died July 20, 1979.
  She also was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one half brother.
  Surviving is one niece.
  She had been a teacher in rural Astoria and also had worked for Mummet Seed Co.
  She served on the Pleasant Township election board.
  She was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren and Summum Christian Church.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, where visitation will be one hour before. The Rev. Gary Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery.

  CANTON - Betty Wilma Clark, 74, of 332 W. French Court died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Graham Hospital.
  Born July 6, 1924, in Browning to Elmer and Elsie Stambaugh Schuman, she married Thomas J. Clark on July 26, 1948, in Lewistown. He died Feb. 10, 1974. One daughter, two grandchildren, four brothers and four sisters also preceded her in death.
  Surviving are one son, Steve of Enid, Okla.; one stepson, August of Peoria; six daughters, Jeanette Malone, Betty Fitch, Alice Smith and JoAnna Windsor, all of Canton, Janice Archibeque of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lula Burgess of Enid; one stepdaughter, Evelyn Thomas of Dunfermline; one brother, Alfred Schuman of Canton; three sisters, Annabelle Grubb of Canton, June Clanin of Dayton, Ohio, and Emma Bucy of Silvis; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
  She was a housekeeper in private homes for many years.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home. The Rev. Layton Malone will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

  Born Oct. 26, 1942, in Canton to Wilbert Russell and Genevieve Schuman Clark, he married Sharon R. Hallmark on Dec. 19, 1964, in Havana. She died Jan. 26, 1988.
  His parents and two brothers also preceded him in death.
  Surviving are two sons, Tim of rural Lewistown and Dennis (and Tiffanie) of Cuba; one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Joyce) Collins of St. David; four grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Dainty of Havana.
  He worked at Wilder Farms in rural Lewistown for many years before he became disabled.

  She was a member of Abundant Life Church.

   He was born on February 9, 1924, in Vermont, Illinois, the son of the late Clinton and Nettie (Schroeder) Copes.  He married Lydia Dohner on May 14, 1950 in Vermont.
   A 1942 graduate of Vermont High School.  He served in WW II with the US Navy. Wendell farmed all his life retiring in the spring of 2006.  He was a member of the Schuyler American Legion and the Illinois Farm Bureau.  He loved life and loved people.
  Surviving are one daughter Sandy Belden and husband Jeff of Columbia, Missouri, three grandchildren Stuart Belden and wife Angela of Columbia, Missouri, Scott Belden, of Dakar, Senegal, Africa and Mark Belden of Columbia, Missouri.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Wayne Copes and one sister Mildred Copes.
  Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev.   She was a 1947 graduate of Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. She taught home economics in high school in Kinmundy, Astoria and Canton. She was a substitute teacher, Industry. She later worked as a desk clerk at the Holiday Inn, Macomb.
  She moved to the Industry area in 1952.
  She was a member of the Industry United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the DAR in Lewistown and the Industry Order of Eastern Star.
  Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at the Clugston-Tibbitts funeral Home, Macomb, with the Rev. Cindy Rettig officiating.

Mrs. Velona Cromien laid To Rest Today
  Following a comparitively brief illness, Mrs. Velona Cromien, one of West Jersey township's oldest and most respected citizens passed away at her home two miles west and two miles north of the village of West Jersey Sunday evening. Mrs. Cromien was aged 85 years and practically all of her life had been spent in Stark County.
  Funeral services were held this Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church in West Jersey, Reverend Thomas Spencer, the pastor, being in charge.
  Interment was in the West Jersey cemetery.
  Velona Aten, youngest daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Aten was born 31 March 1846 at Smithfield, Fulton county, Illinois, and passed away at her home northwest of West Jersey 10 May 1931 at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 10 days. When she was about a year old, her father passed away and the family moved to Stark county where she grew to womanhood.
  In 1867 she was united in marriage to Phillip Cromien, veteran of the Civil War. During the war, Mr. Cromien was a prisoner of the Confederate forces and was held in Andersonville prison. Mr. Cromien passed away 9 February 1879.
  The following children survive: Mrs. Tom Connelly, Mrs. Homer Webster, John, Charles and Clyde Cromien, all of the West Jersey community. She also leaves eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one half sister, Mrs. Emma Jones, of LaFayette. One sister, one brother, three half-brothers and one half-­sister preceded her in death.

Services Held For Mrs. V. Cromien, 85
  Funeral services for Mrs. Velona Cromien were held last Wednesday afternoon from the West Jersey Methodist Episcopal church, Reverend Thomas A. Spencer in charge. Mrs. Cromien was aged 85 years and passed away 10 May, after a comparitively short illness.
  Service of song was given by Mrs. J. H. Beamer and son Phillip, who sang "Nearer My God To Thee, " "Abide With Me," and" Jesus, Lover of My Soul." They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. J. C. Bodine.
 Pallbearers were Frank Bryan, B. A. Fox, Ralph Beamer, Henry Swank, S. J. Newman and Hayes Harmon.
  Velona Aten was born 3 March 1846 near Smithfield, in Fulton county, Illinois. She was the youngest of three children and the last to survive. Shortly after her father's death when she was only one year of age, her mother moved with the family to West Jersey township.
  In 1867 she was united in marriage to Phillip Cromien, a soldier who fought under Grant in the Civil War. She was left a widow in 1879 with three sons and two daughters. They are Mrs. Tom Connelly, Mrs. Homer Webster, and John, Charles, and Clyde, all of whom live in the West Jersey vicinity. A nephew, Milford Aten, made his home with the family for many years.
  There are also eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives who survive, and one half-sister, Mrs. Ella Jones of LaFayette.

  Born in Rushville, IL, March 19, 1929, to Vail and Goldie (Rittenhouse) Crosier, he married Betty Jeanne Trone, June 1, 1949 at Mt. Sterling Christian Church, Mt. Sterling, IL.
  She survives along with two daughters; Sharon (Steve) Kuzniar of Canton and Linda (Curtis, deceased) Asher of Warsaw; a special niece whom he raised, Vicki (Mark) Trone-Natwick of Milwaukee, WI; three grandchildren, Kevin (Debbie) Asher of Anchorage, AK, Jennifer Asher of Champaign and Joshua Kuzniar of Yates City; two great-grandchildren, Curtis and Ella Grace Asher of Anchorage, AK; two brothers, Robert Crosier of Gary, IN and Donnie Crosier of Rushville; two sisters, Dorothy Huggins of Canton and Betty Foote of Mt. Sterling and a grand niece, Ashley Kellums of Wisconsin. Preceding him in death were his parents, his son-in-law, Curtis Asher, one brother and two sisters.
  He first worked for International Harvester and had his own Concrete Construction business for several years. He then was a city policeman for the Canton Police Dept. for twenty years before retiring.
  Jink was a good husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He had a special fishing friend, Cary Bohanan, who he could always count on to accompany him to their favorite fishing hole. He will be sadly missed by his family.
  He was of the Christian Faith and a US Navy veteran.
  Services will be Wednesday, June 27th at 11:00 am at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton with visitation one hour prior. Captains David & Randi Bump will officiate.   Born May 11, 1926, in Babylon to George Washington and Myrtle Elizabeth Henderson Cunningham, he married Marjorie L. Danner on Nov. 24, 1955, in Olympia, Wash. She died Feb. 21, 1991. One brother and one sister also preceded him in death.
  Surviving are one son, Timothy of Monmouth; one daughter, Mickie Cunningham Sinnett of Abingdon; one sister, Irene Cunningham Jordan of Bushnell; and three grandchildren.
  He worked at Admiral Division of Maytag Corp. in Galesburg for 33 years.
  He served in the Army for two years.
  Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. The Rev. Warren Cummins will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.   Born Oct. 28, 1907, near Prairie City to John and Matilda Merrill Forshee, she married Raymond Carpenter. He died in 1938. She married Leo Danner on Nov. 6, 1948, in Abingdon. He survives.
  Also surviving are one daughter, Pauline Shinn of Abingdon; one stepdaughter, Barbara Harn of Bushnell; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by one son, James Carpenter, one daughter, Ramona Carpenter, two stepdaughters, one stepson, three grandsons, one great-granddaughter, two sisters, two brothers and two great-great-grandchildren.
  She grew up in Prairie City before moving to Wisconsin. She was an Abingdon resident since 1947. She worked at the former Fey's Cafe in Abingdon.
  She was a member of Assembly of God Church in Abingdon.

  GARDEN CITY - Chester A. Danner, 87, retired Finney County farmer and stockman, died Monday at St. Catherine’s Hospital following a long illness.
  He was born Jan. 14, 1874, in Fulton, County, Ill.  He had lived in Finney County since 1918.  He was a director of the Garden National Bank here from 1934 until his retirement in 1960.  His wife, Mary Leona, died in 1950.  He belonged to the Christian Church and the Elks Club.
  Only immediate survivor is a brother, C. O., of Lakeland, Fla.
  Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Phillips Funeral Home.  Rev. Arthur F. Fleming officiating.  Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.

  Surviving are one son, Max of Astoria; one daughter, Patricia Weaver of Liverpool; one sister, Marie McCance of Beardstown; one brother, Delbert of Rushville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
  He was an electrician and a plumber.
  A Navy veteran, he was a member of Vermont Masonic Lodge 116.

  Born March 4, 1907, in Astoria to Daniel T. and Bessie Ellis Huff Danner, he married Irene E. Schaefer on Aug. 31, 1940, in Pekin. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Gregory (and Bridget) of Urbana; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Danner of Canton.
  He was preceded in death by one sister.
  A World War II Army veteran, he retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1967. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States.
  He was a highway construction engineer with the Illinois Division of Highways in Peoria from 1930 to 1946 and was professor of civil engineering at the University of Illinois from 1946 until retiring in 1974.
  He served as director of the Illinois Engineering Council from 1947 to 1970. He served on the Champaign City Council from 1959 to 1965.
  He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, American Road Builders Association, American Society of Civil Engineers and was listed in ''Who's Who in the Midwest'' and ''Who's Who in Engineering.''
  He graduated from Western Illinois State Teachers College Academy in Macomb, with honors, as valedictorian and earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in Urbana.
  He was a member of Chi Epsilon, Sigma Tau, Sigma Xi and Tau Beta Pi.
  He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Peoria, Ariz.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Brethren in Canton, where visitation will be one hour before. The Rev. Kevin Kessler will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

  He was a farmer.

  Born June 3, 1904, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, to Benjamin S. and Anna Gentzler Danner, he married Iona F. Hetrick on June 16, 1928, in Peoria.
  She survives, along with three daughters, Evelyn Danner and Helen Wise, both of Astoria, and Charlotte Danner of Peoria; one son, Victor of Terre Haute, Ind.; one sister, Marie McCance of Beardstown; three brothers, Curt of Rushville, Chauncey of Astoria and Delbert of Beardstown; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Seven brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
  He was in the hardware and electric business for 33 years. He owned Danner Electric for 18 years, retiring in 1963. He was a member of Astoria Masonic Lodge 100, AF&AM, and Ansar, Shrine, Valley of Springfield.

  Born Dec. 21, 1899, in Astoria Township to Samuel B. and Emma Sweigart Danner, he married Jessie Louise Caspall on Feb. 16, 1927, in Adair. She died Sept. 2, 1961. Three sisters and one brother also preceded him in death.
  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Gwen) Phillips of Eureka and Mrs. Leoines (Barb) Klossing of Stronghurst; one son, Sam of Blandinsville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
  A former member of McDonough County Farm Bureau, he farmed in the Blandinsville area all his life.
  He also served on the Northwestern School Board in Sciota for six years.
  He was a member of Rock Creek Methodist Church.

  RUSHVILLE - R. Allen Danner, 51, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Rushville, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 1995, in Poplar Bluff.
  Born Jan. 24, 1944, in Macomb to Russell and Pauline Street Danner, he married Pat Credille on April 13, 1987, in Reno, Nev. She survives.
  Also surviving are his mother of Rushville; two daughters, Michelle Danner and Cammie Mock, both of Quincy; two stepsons, Michael Matthews of Rushville and James Credille of Houston; three stepdaughters, Linda Gillian of Flint, Mich., and Brenda Credille and Sally Gilcrease, both of Houston; and 10 grandchildren. One grandson preceded him in death.
  He was a disabled-employee involvement coordinator at Rowe Furniture Co. in Poplar Bluff.
  He served in the National Guard and Reserves. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the North American Fishing Club.
  Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rushville City Cemetery. The Rev. Marvin Chalfant will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by Schuyler American Legion Post 4. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel, Rushville.

  ASTORIA - Ralph Lewis Danner, 76, of Route 1 died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, June 3, 1994, at his home.
  Born May 31, 1918, in Littleton to Ralph and Clela B. Haffner Danner, he married Harriet Baxter on Aug. 20, 1939, in Astoria. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Dr. David of Pekin; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Sally) Bergeson of St. Louis; and four grandchildren.
  He was a retired grain and livestock farmer.
  He was a member of Fulton County Farm Bureau and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a former member and president of the Astoria School Board.
  He was a member of the Knox College 50 Years Alumni Club and Phi Delta Theta.
  He was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church, where services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Lance Leeds will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

  CANTON - Richard F. Danner, 74, of 1930 N. Main St. 1-A died at 1:27 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2000, in the emergency room at Graham Hospital.
  Born July 31, 1925, in Astoria to Floyd E. and Viola M. Bricker Danner, he married Patricia L. Saurbaugh on Aug. 9, 1947, in Canton. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Paul of Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Eugene of Canton; three sisters, Alice Stevenor of Los Angeles, Marjorie Peters of Canton and Thelma Carpenter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and one grandchild.
  A member and past president of the American Legion, he was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran, serving as a tailgunner in the Pacific Theater.
  He worked for Cohen's Furniture in Peoria, retiring in 1990 as senior vice president of merchandising.
  He was a member of First Christian Church of Canton, where he served as a deacon and board chairman. He also was a member of Canton Country Club.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at his church. The Rev. Arden Keen will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
  Memorials may be made to his church music fund.

  CHILLICOTHE - Ronald E. Danner, 74, of 512 Sweetbriar died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 1994 at his residence.
  Born Dec. 22, 1919, in Astoria to Keith and Mary Carter Danner, he married Edith Baum on Sept. 9, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Mike of Chillicothe; one brother, Carter of Astoria; three sisters, Patty Heaton of Vermont, Nancy Danner of Peoria and Kay Ellen Danner of Canton; and one grandchild. Three sons, Gary, Larry and David, and one brother preceded him in death.
  He was a farmer in the Vermont area and was manager of the Vermont Grain Elevator for 27 years, retiring in 1981. He later managed the Chateau Apartments in Chillicothe.
  A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Vermont American Legion, George Washington Masonic Lodge 222 in Chillicothe and the Silver Air Patrol. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
  He also was a member of Ipava Christian Church.
  Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Astoria Cemetery in Astoria. The Rev. Ray Harrison will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 tonight at Weber Funeral Home, with masonic services at 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Rescue 33 or to Methodist Medical Center Hospice Program or to the American Cancer Society.

  RUSHVILLE - Russell H. "Rasty" Danner, 77, of Rushville died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 1993, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
  Born Aug. 9, 1916, in Fulton County to Clarence and Clara Haare Danner, he married Pauline Street on Dec. 2, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Allen of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Kenny (Data) Lee of Canton; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, One sister, four brothers and one great-grandson preceded her in death.
  He was a rural mail carrier for the Rushville and Browning post offices for 32 years, retiring in 1982. A World War II Army veteran with rank of Tech. 4, he served in the Army Amphibious Engineers. He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post 4, Ducks Unlimited and North American Fishing Club.
  He also was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a past member of Odd Fellows.
  Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Watkins will officiate. Calling hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery with military rites conducted by his American Legion post.

Services Held Friday For Miss Sarah Danner
  Funeral services for Miss Sarah Jane Danner, 92, lifelong resident of the Astoria area, were held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.  The Rev. Galen Gerdes officiated, and burial was in Woodland Cemetery near Astoria.
  Miss Danner died early last Wednesday morning at the Wickert Home in Astoria after a brief illness.
  She was born July 23, 1871 near Astoria to Conrad M. and Sarah Stambaugh Danner.  She was a member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren.  Two nieces survive.  A brother, Levi Danner is deceased.

  She was born Jan. 8, 1903, in Ipava, the daughter of Leo and Bessie Roddis Webber. She married Bransford Danner in 1922 in Decatur. He died in 1975. She was also preceded in death by a daughter and three brothers.

  ASTORIA - Susie E. Danner, 85, of 710 E. State St. died at 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, 1997, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
  Born Sept. 6, 1911, in Vermont to Fred and Mattie Sorrell Gossage, she married Chauncey E. Danner on Feb. 23, 1929. He died Nov. 24, 1993. Three daughters, one son, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
  Surviving are two daughters, Verna Powell of Canton and Connie Cavins of Astoria; one brother, Otto Gossage; one sister, Gladys Brown; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
  Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Astoria Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Derry will officiate. There will be no visitation. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

  GALESBURG - Wilfred W. "Willie" Danner, 71, of 2498 Carol Drive died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, April 26, 1993, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
  Born May 23, 1921, in Astoria to Earl M. and Edna Mae Smith Danner, he married June E. Lipes on Nov. 29, 1951, in Kahoka, Mo. She survives.
  Also surviving are one son, Gregory W. of Eagle Point, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Brad (Gloria J.) Ator of Farmington, Utah, and Kara B. Johnston of Wataga; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl of Galesburg and Oliver of Kersey, Colo.; and two sisters, Bernita Danner of Pueblo, Colo., and Moorene J. Miller of Elizabeth, Colo. He was preceded in death by one brother.
  A Kroger employee for 42 years, he was a meat cutter and later a manager for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was a World War II Air Force veteran and a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
  He was a member of American Legion Post 285 and a member and trustee of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Galesburg.
  Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West, Galesburg Chapel, where visitation will be one hour earlier. The Revs. Randy Reese and Roy Roberts will officiate.
  Graveside services wil be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.
  Memorials may be made to his church, Galesburg Cottage Hospital hemodialysis unit or the American Red Cross.
