| Note to Researcher: The 1820 US Federal Census is the 4th Census taken in the United States. It was copied from the actual images taken from the National Archives & Records Admin. Microfilm, M33, 142 Rolls. This Census was to include the following categories: *# of Free White Males & Females in age categories: 0-10, 10-16, 16-18 (males), 18-26, 26-45, 45+ * # of Other Free persons ( not including Indians), * # of Slaves * # of Free Persons of Color Now, some Counties actually had their categories labeled, Gallatin county used the alphabet A-Z, so determining which categories was which... was difficult. I used other neighboring counties as a reference in the order of Categories used. In my transcribing, I have Never come across such a difficult read. This census, because of it's age and the way it was preserved, was very difficult to transcribe. So, I have transcribed only what I was able to read. There are quite a few Names unaccounted for. I apologize. If anyone has any information regarding this Census, please feel free to contribute! We are always in appreciation of any help offered, as we are Volunteers ourselves. Sincere thanks, Deanna Heneghan |
