be heard from the congregational singing. When she grew to womanhood, with the
help of others, she solicited funds and the first organ was bought for the
church. She also helped organize the first W. M. S. for the Blooming Grove Church. For the past three years she had been in failing health, but could
always be seen at church services when it was at all possible for her to
attend.
Her Christian example of living set a fine standard of living for her

Lofton Echols was born
near Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee in the year 1816 and lived in that state
until nearly 25 years of age.
In the year of 1840, he set out on horseback alone and after a tedious journey
northward through the wilderness of Kentucky and Southern Illinois finally came
to a group of huts surrounded by woods wore McLeansboro now stands. He settled
upon 16 0 acres of government land in the northwest part of what is now
McLeansboro Township, and the same year at the age of 25 married Miss Delilah
Bond, the daughter of Mastin Bond, one of the early immigrants from Kentucky.
He had learned the bricklayer's and brickmaker's trade before leaving Tennessee and for many years pursued that occupation after migrating to this county. The Hamilton County jail and the south portion of the Grand Hotel Building are still standing s.
relics of his early work, the bricks having been made and laid by him.
In 1842 he became a member of Ten Mile Church. Here his membership remained
until 1850 when he and several others founded Blooming Grove Church, of which he remained an active and aggressive until his death which occurred Saturday
night, October 19. He was a persistent bible student. According to his own
statement he read the entire bible through seventeen times. He survived his
wife eight years. Three sons Shelby, James M.. and John P.. and three
daughters, Mrs. Mary Jane Bowers Mrs. Sarah Lane and Mrs. William D, Daily are

JESS WHEELER, DEAD Jess Wheeler, was born in 1869, departed this life July 26, 1921, at dale, age 52 years, 2 months and 5 days. He was united in marriage to Nellie Ritcheson, in August, 1910, and to this union five children were born, two of whom have preceded him in death. He has suffered severely for some time, and did not know for what purpose he was here so long, as he was willing to go, and gave strong evidence that he would meet God in peace. Having known Jess, for some 30 years we always found him, good hearted and true to his friends. He leaves to mourn his departure, his companion, three children, mother and a number of brothers and sisters, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church in Dale. Conducted by Rev. C.M. Prince. The body was laid to rest in Digby Cemetery.
