Cherry Grove Cemetery

Compiled by Laurie Selpien

Driving Directions from the Hamilton/Wayne County line you will head south about 6 miles and
turn left onto Blairsville Road about one mile down the first road you can
turn right on is a gravel road (you will be heading South) , turn onto this
road and about 1 mile down on your left is Cherry Grove Cemetery.

This cemetery was photographed and transcribed in July 2006

by Michael Von Goebel his information taken from the headstones will be in this color

Photo taken and donated by Michael Von Goebel

These two photo’s were taken of the same stone by Michael the stone on the top is facing north the stone on the bottom is facing south as you can see there is a wide open area in the center where it is believed more people have been buried but there are no headstones present. In the index below I have found newspaper obituaries on people stating that they were buried in Cherry Grove but there was no headstone found marking their graves by the time Michael walk the cemetery in 2006 I have added information to this cemetery is not based on just headstone inscriptions but rather the family bible of Lafe Perry, and other records I have found on our family. As well as the Book Legacy of Kin by Harold G. Felty and the Illinois state data base as a cross reference. My additions are in this color.

Although we have tried to be as accurate as possible in our research, mistakes happen, if you know of any corrections or additions to this cemetery please contact me, thanks Laurie lselpien@msn.com

Blue row indicates known war veteran!

Information in BROWN was taken from the September 1963 headstone transcriptions by Harriet B. Vaught

Special Note: The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library offers a newspaper lookup service that will send you copies of the original obituaries listed below for a small fee ( 2 obits for a $1.00 for Illinois residents $10.00 for out of state) check out their information at the following link http://www.state.il.us/hpa/lib/ishlgen.htm
