Birch Barnerd

Services for Rurie Birch Barnerd, 87, of Elizabethtown, were held at noon Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Hosick Funeral Home of Rosiclare with the Rev. Clifford Rose officiating.  Burial with military rites was at Rutherford Cemetery near Cave In Rock.

He died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

Mr. Barnerd was a World War II Army veteran.  He was a fluorspar miner and mine superintendent.

He is survived by his wife Dorla Barnerd; two sons, Larry Barnerd of Slaughters, KY, and Jack Barnerd of Evansville, IN; one brother, Troy Barnerd of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Barnerd; one brother and two sisters.  His parents were Spence and Daisy Birch Barnerd.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Rutherford Cemetery Fund.  They may be left at the funeral home or sent to Area Bank in Cave In Rock.
