Mae Sneed McManomy
Laura
Mae Sneed McManomy, of Evansville, Ind., died
April 29, 2005, at Deaconess Hospital at the
age of 85.
Laura
was born Laura Mae Edwards on January 1, 1920,
to George Washington Edwards and Ella Neva
McArthy in Granger, Missouri, where George was
a minister in the Methodist Church. Her mother
died during the flu epidemic of 1918-1920. Her
father died in Elizabethtown, Illinois, in
1946 at the age of 70. Her second mother was
Loretta Edwards. Loretta died in
Elizabethtown, Illinois.
As did
many Hardin County, Illinois families, Laura
and her husband, Paul Sneed, moved to
Evansville, Indiana, at the beginning of World
War II to work in the war factories. She
worked on the famous P-47 airplane during the
war and spent most of her remaining work life
working at Faultless Caster in Evansville,
where she retired in 1985. She enjoyed dancing
and bowling.
She
was preceded in death by her first husband,
Paul Sneed, in 1991; her second husband, Leon
McManomy, in 1998; her daughter, Ella Sneed
Buth, in 1973; and her grandson, Andrew James
Sneed, in 2000.
She
was also preceded in death by brothers,
Herbert, Howard, Harry, John, George and Ben;
and a sister, Betty.
She is
survived by sons, Robert Sneed and his wife,
Fran, Chandler, Ind., and Bradley McManomy and
his wife, Velba, Newburgh, Ind.;
grandchildren, Laura Buth Wagner,
Indianapolis, Ind., Sara Sneed Hamm,
Bremerton, Wash., Brett Buth, Indianapolis,
Ind., Todd Buth, Indianapolis, Ind., Crystal
McManomy, Evansville, Ind., Brandon McManomy,
Newburgh, Ind., and Robin Sneed, Chandler,
Ind.; great-grandchildren, Adam Wagner and
Nolen Wagner, Indianapolis, Ind.; sisters,
Ruth Ozee, Cave-In-Rock, Ill., Bessie Stone,
Golconda, Ill., Jane Tanner, Harrisburg, Ill.,
and Mary Lou Schmidt, Glenwood Springs, Colo.;
and brothers, Charles Edwards, Terre Haute,
Ind., and Fred Edwards, Terre Haute, Ind.
Laura
was a generous person who touched many lives.
She loved her family very much and will be
missed very much by everyone who knew her.
Funeral
services will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May
3, 2005, at Browning Funeral Home, with burial
following in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial
