The roads leading into Colona are almost impassible.
Schools open with an increased attendance since the holidays.
Prof. Edgar Hawes and lady of Annawan, were here visiting at Mr. Comstock's during the holidays.
Rev. Mr. Doran, is holding a series of religious meetings at which a good degree of interest is exhibited.
Mrs. Wm. Skinner of this place had another surgical operation performed upon her limb this week by Drs. Truesdale and Sale.
Mr. G. W. Sherrell of Independence, Iowa is here visiting his son and will remain 3 or 4 months. He is agent for the national Publishing Co., and has some very nice sample bibles and other popular books.
The Rock River sandstone quarry is in a very flourishing condition, having now several orders for bridges, family vaults, grave copping, vases, posts, etc. This stone is so easily worked, the proprietors can do this class of work exceedingly cheap, parties desiring anything in their line will find it an object to deal with McNern & Sherrell. They furnish plans, estimatch and everything in their line at the most reasonable rates. This enterprise of McNern & Sherrell entered upon within the last year is proving of great importance to a large region of country.
