ELIJAH SAPP DIES IN PEORIA
Elijah Sapp, a former resident of West Watseka, died at his home in Peoria last Thursday evening of cancer of the
stomach. Deceased was born in Belmont Twp. in Oct. 1857. He was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. William Sapp,
who were the first white people married in this county after organization. They were the parents of ten children,
only two of whom are living.
Mr. Sapp died in 1867 and Mrs. Sapp and her children moved to West Watseka about 1892. Elijah worked on the railroad
and lived with his mother until his marriage in Sept. 1898 to Ida Powell. They were the parents of two sons and
two daughters.
The family moved to Peoria three years ago where Mr. Sapp was employed at the Avery Mfg. company plant. Funeral
services were held un Peoria Sunday, followed by burial there.
