Lemons Boren

AN OLD CITIZEN GONE

     Lemons Boren was born in Alabama Oct. 9, 1826.  Died Feb. 4, about 12 o'clock p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Milo Hindman, east of this city.
     He came to this state at about 3 years of age, his parents locating on what is now the J.A.C. Floyd farm, where he grew to manhood.
     He lived in Jackson county for about 45 years, moving from here to Williamson county where he spent the remaining years of his life.  He was the eldest of eleven children of whom three survive:  Mrs. J.C. Hobbs and Mrs. J. A. C. Floyd, of this city, and Wm.Boren, of Reed Station.
     He was united in marriage to Larinda Dunn, to which union eight children were born, all of whom are dead, also the mother.  His second wife who survives him, was Miss Malissa Crain, of Carbondale.  Ten children came to their home of whom seven are living, one son and six daughters:  Ephraim Boren, of Herrin; Mrs. Alice Crain, of Carterville; Mrs. Mary McNeil, of Lauder; Mrs. Malissa Painter, Mrs. Nellie Byers, Mrs. Anna Skelcher, and Mrs. Milo Hindman, of Williamson county.
     He also leaves about seventy grandchildren and some great grand children, Mrs. O. Christie, of this city, being a grandchild.
    "Uncle Lem Boren," by which name be was known to many, will be greatly missed in the two counties where he spent almost his entire life having a pleasant word and a friendly clasp of the hand for every one that knew him.
     He united with the Baptist Church at an early age.
     Funeral services will be conducted at Antioch Baptist church at 10:30 tomorrow.  Interment in Snider cemetery between 1 and 2 o'clock.
