Walter Herdy Bartlett

FORMER RESIDENT BURIED HERE

Walter Herdy Bartlett, son of George and "Lina" Bartlett, was born June 22, 1876, on the old Bartlett Homestead, about two miles south of Ava, Illinois; passed away at Grady Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, April 12, 1934; age 57 years, 9 months and 10 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Dora Davis of Ava, Illinois, December 30, 1903. They made their home in Ava until about 22 years ago when they moved to Atlanta, where he entered the mercantile business.

He was baptized by Rev. Gasque of Atlanta of the Episcopal Church. He leaves besides his widow, one siser, Mrs. Minnie Johnson, of Long Beach, California; two brothers, Joe, of Sparta, Illinois, and Freeman, also of Long Beach, California; one half sister, Mrs. Sara Cheatham and one half brother, James M. Bartlett, both of Ava, Illinois, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

The remains were brought to this city, arriving Sunday morning. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Ava Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Propst. Burial followed in the Bartlett Cemetery.
