Roy Johnson Palmer Roy Palmer, 87, Murphysboro, died today in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Murphysboro. Mr. Palmer was secretary - treasurer of the Murphysboro Park District board for 25 years. He also served two terms as city treasurer in the late 1920's and a term as township assessor. He operated a bookkeeping and tax service, Mail-Me-Monday, in Murphysboro. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Meyer-Denny Funeral Home, Murphysboro.
March 25, 1966 Former City Official Dies- Funeral services for Roy Palmer, 87, former Murphysboro treasurer and park district official, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro. The Rev. Lee Pope Ward will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Murphysboro. Mr. Palmer, of Murphysboro, died Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital, after a short illness. He was born in Belleview, Mo., on May 15, 1878, the son of Andrew Jackson and Sophie Presnell Palmer. He married Lillian Forester in Murphysboro on July 17, 1902. Mrs. Palmer died Nov. 10, 1937. Mr. Palmer was elected Murphysboro City Treasurer in 1929 and 1937. He was elected Murphysboro Township Assessor in 1941. Mr. Palmer served as secretary - treasurer of the Murphysboro Park District board for 25 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterain Church and was church secretary for 50 years. Mr. Palmer established the Mail-Me-Monday accounting and tax service in Murphysboro in 1949. He sold the service to Everett Jefferson and Paul Sorgen in January 1965. He leaves daughters, Mother Mary Robert, O.S.B., of Beach Grove, Ind., and Marie Palmer of Murphysboro; sons, the Rev. Jerome Palmer, O.S.B., of Oceanside, Calif., the Rev. Herbert Palmer, O.S.B., of St. Meinard, Ind., and Paul Palmer of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Meyer-Denny Funeral Home in Murphysboro after 4 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
