Jackson Co, IL, PERLEAMON PATE, aged 73, is the Father of MATHEW PATE and
JOHN PATE who enlisted at Murphysboro, IL in Sept 1862. MATHEW PATE died at
Memphis, TN 5 Feb 1863 while in service of disease contacted in the Army and
JOHN PATE died 19 Jul 1863 of congestive chills at Vicksburg, MS while in camp.
Sons, MATHEW and JOHN PATE left neither widow nor child under sixteen years
of age surviving, they never having been married. Declarant was married to
the Mother of said sons at Carthage, TN on 19 Jan 1832 by David Hogg, a Justice
of the Peace. Mother of said sons died near Murphysboro, IL on 3 Mar 1863. At
date of sons death their brothers or sisters under sixteen were:

Wiley Marshall as to knowing

examined the Family Bible and inscribed therein verbatim:
PERLEMAN and RAVENNA PATE was married January the 19th in the year of our
Lord 1832 (Note: Ravenna Draper, daughter of Philip Draper)
Statement by PERLEMAN PATE, Father of JOHN PATE of Co D, 31 IL Vols. He is a
resident of Murphysboro, Jackson Co, IL, a farmer, age 76, and has lived here
for 35 years. Married to the Mother of soldier, JOHN PATE, January 19, 1832 by
Squire David Hogg in Smith Co, TN. Soldier's Mother died 3 Mar 1863. Family in
1863 were:
ANTHONY PATE, a son, born 13 Jun 1843
PERLEMAN PATE, a son, born 15 Feb 1848 28 Oct 1884 War Dept, Adjutant
General's Office
JOHN PATE (age 21), a Pvt of Co D, 31 Regt IL Vols enrolled 30 Aug 1862 at
Murfreesboro for 3 years. Roll for Jul & Aug 63 - died in Camp in rear of
Vicksburg 18 Jul 1863. Died in Regimental Hospital 19 Jul 1863 of chronic
dysentery.

MATTHEW PATE (age not given), Pvt Co D, 31 Regt IL Vols, enrolled on 30 Aug 1862
at Murfreesboro for 3 years. On roll of Co for Jan & Feb 63, died 5 Feb 63.
Entered Foundry General Hospital Memphis, TN 1 Jan 1863 of inflammation of
bowels. Name NATHANIEL PATE is not borne on rolls of Co D 31 IL Vols.
