John B. Williamson AGED AND RESPECTED CITIZEN PASSES AWAY
John B. Willliamson, aged,respected and prominent farmer, living a few miles east of Ava in Ora township, died at his home Tuesday night at 9:45 o'clock. His age was 74 years and 9 days. Mr. Williamson was born near Ava and this vicinity was his life-time home. November 22, 1877, he and Miss Melissa (should be Malissa) Coyle were united in marriage. The widow and the following four sons and three daughters survivie: Rollie F. , Arch and Frederick of Ava, Samuel O. of Herrin, Mrs. J. C. McDaniel of Carbondale, Mrs. Dillard Woodward of Vergennes and Mrs. Jack Glenn of Ava. Numerous grandchldren and a host of other relatives also survive.
Mr. Williamson was a republican politically and served his township for several terms on the board of Jackson county supervisors. Fraternally he was a member of Sato Knights of Pythias, Ava I.O.O.F. and Masonic lodges. A more detailed story of Mr. Williamson's life will appear in next week's Citizen
The funeral Thursday was one of the largest ever held in the Sato Baptist Church. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J.L. Meads of Benton, assisted by the Sato pastor, Rev. R.C. Smith. the services at the church were in charge of Sato K. of P.Lodge. Ava Lodge, I.O.O. f. had charge of the burial rites at the Ava Evergreen Cemetery. six of Mr. Williamson's grandsons aced as pallbearers.
