Here's some background on John Collins HAYS - submitted by contributed by Source #6 b. 29 June 1844 in Switzerland County, IN Civil War service: Served
in Co. D, 93rd Regiment Indiana Volunteers; also served in Co. I. 93rd Regiment Indiana Volunteers. Discharged
1 Aug 1865. Disabled by measles which he contracted in Mississipi in December 1862, resulting in disease
of the throat, lungs and heart. His grandson, John Robert Hays said that he had 7 brothers who all fought

Henry was born 12 Jul 1823 in Harrison County, Indiana and died 24 Nov 1907 in North Muddy Township, Jasper County, IL. His wife was Malissa Jane Cuppy. She was born 27 Sep 1832 in Perry Township in Lawrence County, IL. She died 22 Mar 1927 in Jasper County.. They were married 13 Jan 1853 in Sullivan County, Indiana. Their chilren were twins William Emery Kirkham and John Marion Kirkham, Mahala Ann Lloyd Kirkham, Fieldon Rice Cuppy Kirkham, and Stacy Jane Kirkham. Used with permission of Linda Kirkham Walton |
