Charles Earl Karn, Jr.
Karn Child Dies In St. L. Hospital; Rites Thursday
Charles Earl Karn, Jr. Of Bonnie Died At Age One
Charles Earl Karn, Jr., little son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Earl Karn of RFD 1, Bonnie, died at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. The child was one year, three months and two days of age. Charles, Jr., who had been a patient in the hospital for four weeks, died from nephritis, a kidney ailment. The child was born November 12, 1953 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Charles Earl and Verice (Malcom) Karn. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Logan Street Baptist church. The Rev. Otho Williams will officiate and burial will be in Bethel Memorial cemetery. Friends of the family may call at Myers Chapel after 10 a.m. Wednesday. The body will be moved to the church at noon Thursday. Besides the parents, the child is survived by the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Karn of (Mt.) Vernon and Mr. and Mrs. (torn off) Malcom of Noble, Ill.

Fay H. Keef
Mrs. Fay H. Keef, 84, 4306 Rose Lane, died at 2:45 a.m. June 8, 1987, at Crossroads Community Hospital. Mrs. Keef owned and operated The Beauty Nook for 25 years. She was also a licensed practical nurse. Mrs. Keef was born Jan. 31, 1903, in Illinois, a daughter of John E. and Clara (Dorris) Yearwood. She married D. A. Borah. He preceded her in death in 1959. She then married Henry Keef. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1969. Private funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon and John Allen will officiate. Burial will follow in New Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Keef is survived by one son, Don Yearwood; four grandchildren; one brother Walter Yearwood of Mt. Vernon; and four sisters, Mary Harmon of Roxana, Mrs. Lester (Dorothy) Isaacs of Wood River, Edith Gilbert of Panama City, Fla., and Mrs. Dean (Betty) Newell of Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Keef was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and two brothers John and Charles "Bud" Yearwood.

Richard Louis Keel
Very aged man died last night; funeral tomorrow.
R. L. Keel, known as “Uncle” Louis Keel, died early last night at the home of his son, Jake Keel, on the Liberty Road. Mr. Keel was 84 years old. He owned a farm near Camp Ground, but for sometime had been at the home of his son. His wife died about ten years ago. Mr. Keel is survived by his son Jake and the following named daughters: Mrs. Elmer Gowler, Mrs. ? King, Mrs. Bob Edwards. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at Camp Ground church and burial will follow at East Salem cemetery. Short services will be conducted at the grave by the Rev. Al Smith

Bert Keele, 67 died last evening [Feb 5, 1950] at his home on East Lester street in Salem. Tthe body has been removed to the Hancock funeral home. Funeral services will be announced later.

Lois J. Keiger
Lois J. Keiger, 82, of Waltonville, died 4:30 a.m. Sept. 16, 2001 at Mt. Vernon Care Facility. She was a secretary in the service department at Montgomery Ward for several years. Mrs. Keiger was born May 16, 1919 in Griffin, Ind., to Wilford Martin and Geneva (Webb) Martin. She married Jesse O. Keiger Oct. 20, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.; he died June 22, 1993. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home. The Rev. Merle Fullerton will officiate. Birial will be at West Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Williams and husband John of Enfield, and Gayla Walker of Mulkeytown; seven grandchildren, John M. Williams and wife Janet, Myra Peak and husband Tim, Cathy Walker-Steidinger and husband Brian, Mary Laughery and husband Greg, Wendell Keiger and wife Nancy, Russell Keiger and wife Sonya, and Rhonda Painter; ten great grandchildren, a sister, Betty Taylor of Woodstock, Ga.; also several nieces and nephews survive. Mrs. Keiger was a member of the Methodist faith and attended the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Jefferson County Home Extension. She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Keiger and Gary Keiger, and a son-in-law, Jerry Walker. Anna McCormick Kell
Mrs. Anna Kell Dies at Home of Son at Bluford
Mrs. Anna McCormick Kell died at 4:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her son, Ancel Purcel in Bluford. Her age was 58 years, two months and eight days. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, conducted by the Rev. Roy Van Horn and burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home, where friends may call up until the funeral hour. Mrs. Kell was the daughter of Louis and Mary Ann (Riley) McCormick. Surviving are her father, Louis McCormick of Mt. Vernon, her husband, O. D. Kell of Mt. Vernon, a son, Ancel Purcell of Bluford, and two grandsons.
Her sister, Mrs. Ella Hoit, preceded her in death.

James Sidney Keller
James Sidney Keller, 65, of near DuBois, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday in the Community Hospital at Pinckneyville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kringer Funeral Home in Tamaroa with the Rev. Tracy Dees officiating. Burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery, near Waltonville. The body will lie in state at the Kringer Funeral Home where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. today. Mr. Keller was born April 22, 1901, at Waltonville, the son of John and Nettie (Martin) Keller. On Dec. 5, 1964, he was married to Leona Shelton, who survives. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Judy Zarr of Alton; two brothers, George Keller of San Pablo, Calif., and Andrew Paul Keller of Tamaroa; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Reis of San Pablo, Calif.; and two step-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Keller, a veteran of World War Two, was a memeber of V.F.W. Post 9153 at Waltonville.

Nancy Kidd
Nancy Kidd Of Ina Died At Age 30
Nancy Kidd, 30, Ina died at 3:37 a.m. Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital. She had been injured in the tornado which swept through the village of Ina on March 30. Mrs. Kidd was born Oct. 28, 1951, in Williamson County, the daughter of J.T. and Ora (Hancock) Bundren. On March 17, 1969, at Ann Arbor, Mich, she married Gene Kidd, who survives. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Absher Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, with the Rev. Dale Burzynski officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery at Carrier Mills. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Becky and a son, Bradley, both at home; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Ann Brantley of Ina; and five brothers, Richard of New Burnside, Alan of Ozark, Ron of Vienna, Tommy of Anna and Jimmy of Eddyville, Ky. Mrs. Kidd was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrier Mills. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David; and one daughter Lori Jean Kidd.

Mt. Vernon -- Nelle V. King, 104, Jeffersonian Nursing Home and formerly of 213 S. Second St., died at 8:05 p.m. Jan. 22, 1989, at the nursing home. Mrs. King was born Aug. 5, 1884, in Jefferson County, a daughter of James A. and Flora (Short) Lisenby. July 25, 1923, she married Richard King, who died Feb. 2, 1965. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home with Mike Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in East Salem Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. King is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Isabel) Gaunt of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Joe Gaunt Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Woodlawn and Mrs. Norman (Phyllis) Murphy of Mt. Vernon; six great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. King was a member of Meadowbrook Christian Church, She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Pauline; two infant sons; four brothers; and two sisters.

Rites Thursday for Richard King
Funeral services for Richard W. King will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Stelleville cemetery at Steeleville, Ill. (NOTE: as written). The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today. At 7:00 p.m. today at the funeral home, Masonic rites will be conducted. Mr. King, 87, died at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 213 Second Street.

Melissa Katherine Kirk
Mrs. J.M. Kirk Dies At Elk Prairie Home
Melissa Katherine Kirk, 79, died at 3 a.m., today at her home in Elk Prairie township on Bonnie R.F.D.1. She was a lifelong resident of Jefferson county. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Elk Prairie Christian church. The Rev. Ervin P. Hayes will conduct the services and burial will be in Abner cemetery. The body will be taken from Myers' Chapel to the home at 4:30 p.m., today. Mrs. Kirk was born Sept. 28, 1865 in Elk Prairie, the daughter of James and Martha (Hudson) Hodge. She was married to J.M. Kirk in May, 1889. Her husband survives. Besides her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Ed Hodge of Sesser, Ill., and Quincy Hodge of Waltonville; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Fred of Denver, Colo.

Luther Hiram Kirkpatrick
L. H. Kirkpatrick Of Ina Dies At Age 83 Years
Luther Hiram Kirkpatrick, 83, of Ina, died at 12:15 a.m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville, with the Rev. Floyd Hartley officiating. Burial will be in the Old Baptist cemetery, south of Waltonville. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville, where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was born November 6, 1885, in Jefferson county, the son of Hiram and Mary (Hartley) Kirkpatrick. On November 7, 1908, in Mt. Vernon, he was married to Callie Fern Jones, who preceded him in death in 1965. Survivors include two sons, Marion Kirkpatrick of Ina and Merritt Kirkpatrick of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Mrs. Madeline Buchholz of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Evelyn Fatheree of Xenia, Mrs. Elizabeth Morgan of Arlington, VA., and Mrs. Mona Greenhill of South Glens Falls, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Malissa Wells of Waltonville; one half-sister, Mrs. Lillie Lewis of Benton; two half-brothers, Howard Willis of Chicago and Russell Willis of Arizona, and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, two sisters and one son.

Fern Klein of Waltonville Dies
Mrs. Ferne (Hartley) Klein, wife of Charles C. Klein, died at 6:15 o'clock Sunday evening at her home on RFD 1, Waltonville. Her age was 52 years, nine months and 24 days. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. W. J. Arms, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Universalist church in Waltonville. Burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will remain at Myers chapel, where friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Klein was born September 20, 1893 near Waltonville, the daughter of James and Cora (Foreman) Hartley. She was a lifetime resident of Jefferson county. In October, 1931, she was married to Charles C. Klein, who survives. she was a member of the Universalist church in Waltonville. Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother, Mrs. Cora Hartley of Waltonville; one son, James C. Barnett of Waltonville; one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Hertenstein of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Clive F. Hartley of Waltonville; and four grandchildren. Her father and one brother preceded her in death.

Mona Kovacovich Of Mt. Vernon Died At Age 98
Mona A. Kovacovich, 98, Mt. Vernon, died 6 p.m. Nov. 21, 1991, at her home. Mrs. Kovacovich had been a nurse at Dunning State Hospital and Home Nursing. She was born April 27, 1893, in London, a daughter of Herman James and Emma (Huff) Elliston. In 1927 in Chicago, she married Carl Kovacovich, who died March 5, 1951. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Burial will follow in South Hickory Hill Cemetery at Bonnie. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Kovacovich is survived by one son, Carl Kovacovich of Pekin; two daughters, Mrs. Ogal (Violet) Wilson of Mt. Vernon and Annie Margaret Hanes of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, two sons and five sisters.

Kraft, Louise, 79, Evansville, Ind., formerly of Mt. Vernon, Ill., died Jan. 5, 2007, 12:01 A.M.
