Susan Yarbrough
Susan Valea Yarbrough, 26, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of the Mt. Vernon and Centralia area, died 6:40 p.m. June 11, 1998, at her home. She was employed by Nascote Industries in Centralia until failing health. She was born Jan. 1, 1972 in Mt. Vernon, to Anna Gentles. She was married to Kenny Yarbrough. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. the Rev. Melvin Vandeloo will officiate. Those attending graveside services on monday are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hughey Funeral Home. Survivors include husband Kenny Yarbrough; mother and step-father Anna Warren and Leroy Warren of Port Orange, Fla., son, Nathan Bergman of Waltonville; brothers, Brad Warren and Paul Warren, both of Mt.Vernon; sisters Tina Schultz of Palm Coast, Fla., Linda Carpenter and husband Gene of Centralia, and Jeanelle Keys of Mt.Vernon; grandfather, Albert 'Red' Gentles of Mt.Vernon; and several cousins, aunts, and uncles in Mt.Vernon. She was preceded in death by grandmother Alpha Gentles and step-brother Russell Warren. She was a member St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt.Vernon. James W. Yates
James W. “Jim” Yates, 64, of Mt. Vernon died 5:45 p.m. Jan. 31, 2006, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was owner and operator of Azusa Printing in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Yates was born Jan. 6, 1942, in West Frankfort to Harry W. Yates and Ellen Lucille Patton. He married Mary Lynn (Story) Yates Aug. 24, 1963, in Benton; she survives. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Daniel J. Jurek will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Yates is survived by his father, Harry W. Yates of West Frankfort; his wife, Mary Lynn Yates of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Jamie Yates and wife Joni of Springfield and Patrick Yates of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Emily Yates of Springfield, Marybeth Yates of Springfield, Jonathon Yates of Springfield and Ellen Yates of Springfield; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother. Mr. Yates was a member and past exalted ruler of the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge, a member of the Jefferson County Shrine Club, the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge, the AMVETS, the Knights of Columbus, the Illinois National Guard and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Almeda Mae (Lisenby) Yearwood
Mrs. Almeda M. Yearwood, of the Salem Road, died this morning at Jefferson County Hospital. Her age was 78 years and 20 days. Mrs. Yearwood was a lifetime resident of Jefferson County. She was born February 6, 1873 in Jefferson County the daughter of James A. and Flora (Short) Lisenby. She was married to John R. Yearwood who survives. Mrs. Yearwood was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Max A. and Robert H. Yearwood of Decatur, two daughters, Mrs. Flora B. Conder of Decatur and Mrs. Grace Loss of Walla Walla, Wash.; one brother, Arthur Lisenby of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. R. W. King and Mrs. Calvin Humphrey of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Cyrus Maulding officiating and burial will be in East Salem Cemetery. The body will remain at Myers Chapel, where friends may call at any time after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Carl Yearwood
Carl Yearwood, son of S. J. and Ritta Yearwood, was born April 17, 1879, departed this life Oct. 10, 1914, at 11:15 a.m. being at the time of his death 35 years, 5 months and 23 days old. He leaves to mourn his departure a father, mother, one brother, Robert; and three sisters, Mrs. Willie Lisenby and Miss Anna Yearwood of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Clyde Starkey of Peru, Ill.; and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss, but we grieve not as those who have no hope for our loss is Heaven’s gain. Funeral services at Wesley M. E. church at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Interment at Sursa.

Charles E. Yearwood
Charles E. "Bud" Yearwood, 79, 216 1/2 S. 17th St., died at 8:35 a.m. July 19, 1986, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Yearwood was born April 28, 1907, in Jefferson County, the son of John Edward and Clara (Dorris) Yearwood. He married Irene Garrett. Mr. Yearwood worked for the Mt. Vernon Police Department for several years and was assistant chief for eight years. He was later chief deputy of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department for several years, after which he worked for the Illinois Bureau of Investigation. He was employed by the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport as a security guard prior to his retirement. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. John Allen officiating. Burial will follow in New Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. James (Mary Ellen) Capps of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Charles "Sonny" Yearwood and wife Phyllis of Mt. Vernon, Lee Yearwood and wife Elaine of Waco, Texas, and Darrell Yearwood and wife Lynn of Godfrey; one brother, Walter Yearwood and wife Ethel of Mt. Vernon; five sisters, Mrs. Fay Keef and Mrs. Dean (Betty) Newell, both of Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Mary Harmon and Mrs. Leslie (Dorothy) Isaacs, both of Roxana, and Mrs. Edith Gilbert of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren, David and Michael Capps and Scott, Kristi, Lisa, Lori and David Yearwood and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Yearwood was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Yearwood and one sister, Ethel Farmer.

Clara Yearwood
Mrs. Clara Yearwood died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday at her home 2101 Richview Road, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 20 days. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pulley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will be in New Shiloh Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today. Mrs. Yearwood was born June 8, 1883, at Shawneetown, the daughter of William and Hannah (Spurlock) Dorris. On Mar. 6, 1902 at Harrisburg she was married to J. Ed Yearwood, who survives. She is also survived by three sons, Charles, Walter and John, all of Mt. Vernon; six daughters, Mrs. Mary Harmon, and Mrs. Dorothy Isaacs, both of Roxana, Mrs. Betty Newell and Mrs. Fay Borah, both of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Edith Gilbert of Panama City, Fla., and Mrs. Ethel Farmer of Evansville, Ind; 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Yearwood was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church.

John Edward Yearwood
John Edward Yearwood of 2104 Richview Road died at 7:00 a.m. Monday in Valpariaso-Niceville Hospital in Niceville, Fla., at the age of 87 years, nine months, and 27 days. Mr. Yearwood had been visiting with Florida relatives. He leaves 58 descendants; three sons, six daughters, 24 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Pulley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Melvin Farmer and the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will be in New Shiloh Cemetery. The body will lay in state at the Pulley Funeral Home where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Yearwood was born Oct. 5, 1877, in Jefferson County, the son of William and Mary Ann (Taylor) Yearwood. On March 6, 1902, he was married to Clara Dorris who preceded him in death on May 2 of this year. Survivors include three sons, Charles, Walter and John Yearwood, all of Mt. Vernon; six daughters, Mrs. Mary Harmon and Mrs. Dorothy Isaac, both of Roxana, Ill, Mrs. Edith Gilbert of Panama City, Fla., Mrs. Ethel Farmer of Evansville, Ind., Mrs. Betty Newell and Mrs. Fay Borah, both of Mt. Vernon; two half-brothers, Ray Reynolds and Albert Reynolds; 24 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Mr. Yearwood, a concrete contractor, was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America Lodge.

John L. Yearwood
John L. Yearwood, 68, a resident of Galatia and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Harrisburg Medical Center.
Mr. Yearwood was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Jefferson County, the son of J. E. and Clara (Dorris) Yearwood.
On April 23, 1948, he married Rheba Piercy, who survives.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of the American Legion Post No. 593 in Equality. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Boyd Cemetery with the Rev. Buss Hart and Bob Prather officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Melvin Leroy Davidson of Texico, John David Yearwood of Keezletown, Va., and Donnie Yearwood of Mt. Vernon, two brothers, Charles and Walter Yearwood both of Mt. Vernon; five sisters, Mrs. Faye Keef and Mrs. Betty Newell, both of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Mary Harmon and Mrs. Dorothy Issac (sic), both of Roxana, and Mrs. Edith Gilbert of Panama City, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Robert Yearwood
John Robert Yearwood, of 17th and Oak Streets, died at 4 o'clock this morning at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past nine days. He was 77 years, 1 month, and 1 day of age. Mr. Yearwood was a lifetime resident of Jefferson County, was a woodworker in the wood shop at the Pressed Car Company. He was born April 19, 1875, the son of Samuel and Rita Yearwood. His wife, Almeda, preceded him in death on February 26, 1951. Mr. Yearwood was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church and of the B. R. C. of A. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Myers Chapel, with the Rev. Cyrus Maulding officiating, and burial will be in East Salem Cemetery. Mr. Yearwood is survived by two sons, Max Arthur and Robert H. of Decatur, Ill. ; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Loss of Walla Walla, Wash. and Mrs. Flora Conder of Decatur; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Lisenby of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Lola Starkey of Spring Valley, Ill. and Mrs. Ann Whitsell of Terre Alta, West Virginia; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Max Arthur Yearwood
Max Arthur "Hooks" Yearwood, 74, 425 N. 9th St., died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday in Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a retired carman for the Wabash Railroad in Decatur. Mr. Yearwood was born in Mt. Vernon, May 11, 1907, the son of John Robert and Almeda (Lisenby) Yearwood. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Myers-Baril Chapel with burial following in East Salem Cemetery. Mr. Yearwood was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 182nd Division of Paratroopers. Survivors include one brother, Bob Yearwood of Mt. Vernon, one sister, Flora Conder of Decatur, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Yearwood was a Protestant. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a sister.

Rheba I. Yearwood
Rheba I. Yearwood, 69, of Texico and a former resident of Mt. Vernon died at 3:45 a.m. Feb. 2, 1997, ath the home of her son, Melvin Davidson of Texico. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Yearwood was born Nov. 6, 1927, in Jefferson County, a daughter of Charles and Ferne (Steele) Piercy. She was first married to Hubert Davidson and alter married John L. Yearwood, who preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Boyd Cemetery, Boyd, with the Rev. Arnold Peterson officiating. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Tuesday morning. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Yearwood is survived by a son, Melvin L. Davidson and wife Roberta of Texico; a granddaughter, Rhonda Davidson of Texico; two stepsons, David Yearwood and wife Shirley of Texico and Don Yearwood and wife Donna of Mt. Vernon; seven stepgrandchildren; eight great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Freda Lane and husband Verdon of Opdyke and Velma England and husband William of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one granddaughter, Shelly Davidson Wilson; two stepgrandsons, Ronnie Soencer and John Yearwood; four sisters and one brother.

Robert Haldeen Yearwood
Funeral services for Robert H. Yearwood, 1210 N. Ninth St., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Myers-Baril Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Auxier officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Yearwood died at 7:35 p.m. Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 70 years old. Mr. Yearwood was born May 20, 1912, in Mt. Vernon, the son of John and Almeda (Lisenby) Yearwood. A retired electrical worker, Mr. Yearwood was also a Navy veteran of World War II. On June 8, 1940 he married Grace Greer, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a sister, Flora Conder, Decatur, and one aunt, Nellie King, Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Max and Fred Yearwood, and one sister, Grace Loss. Mr. Yearwood was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church.

Charles F. Yearwood
Charles F. "Sonny" Yearwood, 60, of Mt. Vernon died July 18, 1997, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was an employee of Mid-West Construction of Marion and past owner and operator of Master Asphalt of Mt. Vernon. Mr. Yearwood was born Sept. 23, 1936, a son of Charles "Bud" Yearwood and Irene Yearwood-Davis. Nov. 28, 1959, in the First Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, he married Phyllis (Henn) Yearwood, who survives. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Newell Funeral Home with the Rev. William Causer and the Rev. Wendell Keller officiating. Burial will be at New Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Newell Funeral Home. Mr. Yearwood is survived by his wife Phyllis; a son, Scott Yearwood and wife Jeri of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Kristi Ralls and husband Craig of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Lee Yearwood and wife Elaine of Waco, Texas, and Darrell Yearwood and wife Lynn of East Alton; a sister, Mary Ellen Capps and husband Jim of Mt. Vernon; and a grandchild, Charles Tyler Yearwood. He was a member of the National Guard and a past member of the Rotary West. He was a member of UCC/First Community Church in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Yearwood was preceded in death by his parents. For those who wish memorials can be made to the Hospice of Good Samaritan and the Jefferson County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Walter Allen Yearwood
Walter Allen Yearwood, 80, of Mt. Vernon, died 12:59 p.m. May 29, 1999, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. He was a concrete finisher and a carpenter along with his father and brothers. They did streets and curbs around the city and also around the city square. Mr. Yearwood and his brother John built some nice homes around the Mt. Vernon area. He also spent many years as a security guard at Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. He played in country music bands in many places. He was born May 8, 1919, in Mt. Vernon, a son of John Edward Yearwood and Clara (Dorris) Yearwood. He married Ethel M. Pilkington in Jackson, MO. on Feb. 1, 1941. Mr. Yearwood was born, raised and lived his whole life in Mt. Vernon. Survivors include his wife, Ethel; a son, Jerry of Mt. Vernon and his wife Adair of Chicago; three sisters, Mary Harmon, Dorothy Isaacs and Betty Newell; and several nephews. He was a Baptist and was baptized at the Old Union Missionary Baptist Church. As per his request, a private family service was held Monday with burial in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ethel Mae Champ officiating. He was preceded in death by his father, mother; two brothers, Charles and John; two sisters, Fay Underwood (Keef) and Edith Gilbert. Arrangements were under the direction of Newell Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon.

Master Sgt. Jeffrey S. Young
Master Sgt. Jeffrey S. Young, 40, of Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, died 2:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 2005, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a master sargent in the United States Air Force 366th Training Squadron. Mr. Young was born Feb. 6, 1965, in Mt. Vernon. He married Kelly J. (Thayer) Young Sept. 26, 2003, in Jamaica; she survives. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Wayne City. The Rev. Brent Bailey will officiate. Burial will follow at Thomason Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Wayne City. Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Kelly J. (Thayer) Young of Wichita Falls, Texas; a daughter, Kaitlin N. Young of Sandoval; a sister, Sheila R. Mattmiller and husband David of Centralia; a half brother, Eddie Marsh and wife Christina of Centralia; his stepfather, who raised him, Bill Marsh of Centralia; and his grandmother, Wanda Gross of Wayne City. Mr. Young had attended First United Methodist Church in Wayne City. He joined the Air Force Oct. 14, 1984. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1983.
