John Cannon Ryan (Rhynes)

John Cannon Ryan died at the home of Mr and Mrs A.M. Ryan Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. 
He had a severe cold which developed into pneumonia and the attack was too severe for 
his system to stand.

John Cannon Ryan was born in Bradley County in the eastern part of Tennessee on July 7, 1844. 
He was a son of William H. and Nancy Ryan and was one of six children, five boys and one girl. 
When eight years of age he came with his parents to Mt Vernon, Il. The journey was made in an 
ox wagon and the children had to walk most of the way because the wagon was loaded with the 
family goods. The mother died soon after their arrival in Illinois. After ten years the family 
removed to Neosho, Mo. They resided there until of the father two years later. He then returned 
to Mt. Vernon with a brother and resided with a family by the name of Dolby and although 21 years 
of age attended school for ten months.

He was first married in 1867. One daughter now living in Kansas City, Ks was born to this union. 
The wife died after a year. In 1876 he married a Mrs (Nancy) Kinman.Children  born to them, 
Thomas Arley, Arthur Merl, and Stella. They moved to Waynesville in 1903 and the year following 
moved to a farm east of Atlanta. Mrs Ryan died July 25, 1907 and was buried at Mt Vernon. He 
worked on farms for several years and then came to Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Church's Funeral Chapel. Burial 
will be at the Atlanta Cemetery.
