GEORGE ROTH
George Roth, son of the well-known
Valentine Roth, of whom a sketch appears
elsewhere in this volume, is, comparatively,
a young man, and born in Galena, IL, July 10,
1856. He was reared and educated in this county,
and was married at the church at Susanna Mound,
Gratiot Co.. Wis., to Miss Ann, daughter of Lambert Luthers, Nov. 5, 1878.
Shortly after his marriage Mr. Roth purchased a
farm of 160 acres, lying on sections 15, 21, and 22.
in Dunleith Township, to which he has since given
his undivided attention, making valuable improvements, and building up a creditable reputation as
an agriculturist. He completed the dwelling, which
was unfinished at the time of his removal here; put
up a good barn and other out-buildings; purchased
a windmill and other valuable farm machinery; and,
it is evident, has the proper conception of the manner in which the modern country homestead should
be conducted. He has recently been turning his
attention to stock-raising, and it is his intention to
make a specialty of Short-horns and Durhams.
To Mr. and Mrs. Roth there have been born
four bright children, ^namely: Christina, Valentine, Josephine, and Nicholas. The eldest was nine
years of age last January, and the youngest is nine
months old. Mr. Roth, politically, votes the straight
Democratic ticket, and in religious matters adheres
to the Catholic faith of his forefathers. He has for
the last three years served as Commissioner of
Highways, and is a member of the School Board of
his district. A gentleman making very little stir
in the world, he pursues the even tenor of his way;
and the result of his application to his own eoncerns
is fully indicated in his home surroundings, and the
comforts which he has gathered around himself and his familv.
