It snowed last night.
The creamery runs every other day.
J. S. Lamont, like Diocletian of old, has something to smother his business cares. If you would see the fat porkers and fine calves he has tended and brought up with his own hands you would agree with us.
G. V. Lichtenberger is somewhat of a gregarian himself.
A world's fair paper has reached us with a full description of Apple River. You would think from reading it that Apple River was the principal city on the line of the Central.
Will Polchow has removed his hair dressing parlors to one door east of the post office. He has his shop fitted up in elegant shape, and with the assistance of Ted, will be pleased to cure your whiskers or five you a shampoo.
The stockholders of the mill will hold a meeting on the 20th.
A scarcity of potatoes in town.

The social given at Jas. Charlton's was a grand success, $12 being netted.
Geo. Mackey is visiting with old chums.
Mrs. Mattie Adonis is visiting with her mother, Mrs. S. Irvine.
The entertainment in the M. E. church Monday night was fairly well attended. Everybody was well satisfied with the entertainment.
The ice houses are all filled.
Ed Hirst, butcher, is home.
J. A. Lamont and wife Sundayed in Freeport.
Mary Dimmick, who has been visiting in Alton for the past three or four months, is home.
The directors of the mill have purchased the Levitt-Fielding lot, east of the coal house, and are going to commence operations at once. They expect to be able to grind by March.
Week of prayer in the M. E. church.
Geo. W. Irvine, of J. V. Farewell & Co., Chicago, was home over Sunday.
There was a New Year's dance in the hall Monday night.
High school literary next Thursday night.

George Irvin is very sick. He arrived home from Chicago last week not feeling well, but was taken worse and the disease has developed into typhoid fever. He is attended by Dr. Czibulka of Warren.
The entertainment given by the Epworth League Wednesday night was not well attended on account of bad weather.
Marcus McDonald is under the weather from an attack of the quinsy.
Joe Robbins and wife stopped off here from an extended trip in the East.
"The mill of the gods grind slow but exceeding fine." The Apple River mill is not exactly grinding flour as yet but the prospects are improving.
Fourteen or fifteen teams managed to haul light loads from the mill at Milville to town Monday.
The I.C. has a large force of men working in the yards here and is also distributing them on the outskirts of the section.
The "snow bound" farmer was seen in town Saturday in force. THere was more business in town than for months before.
Howard & Wilson's Comedy Co., that was billed here for Monday night failed to materialize.
Charley Bush arrived here from Iowa Monday. He has not been home for three or four years.

The farmers report the roads in a fair condition and predict an early spring. With wood at $5.00 per cord, pork at $8.00 per hundred and sugar 20 pounds for the dollar, the farmer seems to have the best end of the string.
The post office struggle here waxes warmer and warmer. Several petitions are going the rounds. The writer has no doubt but what Grover Cleveland will give it to some good Republican!
Chas. Tippert expects to emigrate to the west shortly. He has had a substantial building framed ready to ship out there and ready to be put up. Charles takes Greeley's advice rather late in life.
Wm. Brunner and Chas. Bush returned to Iowa Monday morning. Mr. Brunner expects to return in two or three weeks and work on the section here.
Joe Robbins and wife returned to their home at St. Paul Wednesday.
Work has begun on the basement of the mill.

A new porch has been put on the M. E. church.
Mrs. M. Maynard was trading in Galena Tuesday of last week.
Mrs. Wm. Conyne and Mrs. Joe Hicks of Warren were callers in town last week Tuesday.
Miss Mary Sullivan of Shullsburg was calling on friends here Saturday. Artist McMillin made his last business trip to our town Saturday. He will shortly leave for Fremont, Nebr., where he has bought a well established photographer's business. We wish him success as he is a good fellow and a fine artist.
Last Saturday a little boy, in asking about the new vestibuled train to be put on the I. C. R. R. Monday, inquired in this wise: "O Mama, I want to stay home from school tomorrow so I can see the new vagabond train go through the first time!"
Dr. Chester Brink, who recently graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Chicago, has located here. We think he has selected a good place, and being fresh from his studies, together with his push and energy, he should succeed.
Mr. Ed. Funk and family of Hampton, Ia., came last Saturday to attend the funeral of Percy Maynard, and will remain visiting relatives for a few days.
Geo. Irvine was out from Chicago to attend the funeral and will rusticate for a few days.
Lon Sawdy of Warren was doing business here last Monday.
The new engine for the mill is on hand and will be put in place in a few days.
John Stahl went to Warren Monday.
Bert Carlton of Colorado Springs is home to assist in the disposal of his father's stock and store, so that all can remove to the Springs. He made this town a call yesterday.

Rev. Mr. Megahay and Delos Carlton accompanied Rita Atz, Lois Craig, Bettie Stich, Anna Mae Wilson, Wayne Lowery & Bernice & Phyllis Coad to Dubuque Saturday where they attended a young people's conference at the Univ. of Dubuque.
Callers at Warren on Monday were Henry Kruger, Mrs. Sara Bawden and niece, Alberta Bonjour, Mr. & Mrs. J.W. Stephenson, Mrs. E.J. White, Allie M. Berryman, W.C. White.
The latest high school honor roll includes 11th year, Marjory Koehn, Arlene Wolfrum and Rita Atz; 10th year Lois Craig, Wayne Lowery and Mary Ohms; 9th year Bernice Coad, Paul Ernst and Mary Ellen Price.
Mrs. Inez Berryman & Mrs. Morey were Warren callers Sunday evening.
Mrs. Emeroy Berryman passed her 72nd birthday on Monday April 25. She enjoyed cards and well wishes and a birthday cake from her daughter-in-law Mrs. W.R. Berryman.
