
MRS. JACOB NATRASS
- residing on a farm on the Apple River road 4 miles west of Warren, died suddenly from heart disease at her home, Tuesday evening, Dec. 27. She was 78 years old, and had long been a resident of this county. She leaves six children all grown. Funeral services will be held at the residence next Friday.

EDGAR BOUTON NEWHALL
- Private funeral services for Edgar Bouton Newhall who died June 10, 1938 in San Diego California, were held at noon Saturday in the Uehren and Furlong funeral chapel here (Galena IL). Rev. Wayne Hoxsie, of South Presbyterian church officiated and interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Newhall was the son of Dr. H.H. and Jane Bouton Newhall. His father was one of Galena's most prominent pioneers. He was born in Galena and lived here as a young man, but later moved west. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Corwith Newhall, and his only sister, Mrs. Adele Barrett. Among those from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barrett of Rockford (Illinois) and Mrs. Dan Green, of Wilmette IL.

NEVA (BOLDT) NESBITT
, 74, of rural Apple River, died at 12:49 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 27, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Schapville, with Pastor Chris Stienstra officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at Miller and Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1934, in Guilford Township near Elizabeth, daughter of Myron and Eunice (Allen) Boldt. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1952.
She married Bud Nesbitt on May 3, 1952, in Savanna. She and her husband owned and operated a tavern in Scales Mound and later the lumber yard in Hanover. She also had worked for Micro Switch, the Elizabeth Nursing Home and the Village of Hanover.
Neva enjoyed crocheting, knitting and spending time with family, also the time spent in Arizona after retirement.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Karlene (Bill) White, of Apple River, and Kathy (Terry) Arnold, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandsons, Jason Arnold, of Cedar Rapids, Andrew Nesbitt, of Monroe, Wis., and Tyler Arnold, of Dubuque; three stepgrandchildren, Kristie Edwards, David White and Krystal Spenser; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Gordon, of Benton, Wis.; and two brothers, John Boldt, of California, Mo., and Duane Boldt, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Velma Spillane, Phyllis Hokenson and a sister in infancy.
MARYALMA I. (ATCHISON) NOBIS
, 72, of Hanover, died July 12, 2008, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at United Methodist Church, Hanover, with the Rev. Lynne Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover.
She was born on Oct. 4, 1935, in Hutchinson, Minn., daughter of Earnest and Vera (Albrecht) Atchison. She attended high school in Racine, Wis.
She married Charles Nobis on July 9, 1955, in Hanover. Mary and Charles were the first couple married by Pastor Grishkowsky in Hanover.
Maryalma worked as a waitress, a teacher's aide and was an American Red Cross volunteer over the years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hanover, and the United Methodist Women, Hanover.
Maryalma was always willing to volunteer for just about any project. She enjoyed cooking, reading, playing bingo, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her wonderful family.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Nobis, of Hanover; two sons, Jim (Debbie) Nobis, of Hanover, and Randy (Susan) Nobis, of Warren; a daughter, Linda Nobis, of Hanover; seven grandchildren, Zachariah, Jasmine, Shannon, Charles Jr., Marysue, Amanda and Jamie; a brother, Donald Atchison, of Kenosha, Wis.; and an aunt, Grace Nobis, of Elizabeth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Mavis Toms and ZoEann Cramblet.

RUTH E. (SANDMAN) NOLAN
- age 89, of Hanover died Thursday, November 8, 2007, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth.
A Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2007 at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover, with Father Everett Hiller as Celebrant. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation was held 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. November 11, 2007 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover.
Ruth was born February 18, 1918, the daughter of Reynold and Loretta (Geisenhoner) Sandman, in Dubuque, Iowa. She was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1935 and went on to graduate from Clarke College, Dubuque in 1939. Ruth married Warren Nolan.
She worked as a Budget Analyst at the Savanna Army Depot for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1989. Ruth was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover.
Ruth very much loved and enjoyed her family, especially the grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and exploring for new restaurant locations. Ruth will be dearly missed by a daughter, Loretta (Bruce) Armstead of Warrenton, Missouri; three sons, Michael (Diane) Nolan of Lincoln, Nebraska, Reynold Nolan of Hanover and Dan Nolan of Hanover; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. Her parents, and two sons, Patrick and William, precede Ruth in death.

WILLIAM NORTH
- Funeral services for William North, 69 year old retired farmer, who died at his home in Woodbine, Wednesday, were held on Saturday. His death followed an illness of about five weeks. There was a brief prayer service at the Charles Vanderheyden funeral home in Stockton at 12:15 o'clock and at the Evangelical Church in Woodbine at 1 o'clock. The pastor of the local church, Rev. W.G. LeConte, officiated. Burial was made in the Woodbine Cemetery. Mr. North was born near Massbach in Derinda Township on January 6, 1871 and always resided in this part of Jo Daviess County. On Aug 18, 1898 he was united in marriage to Carrie Boehm. Beside his widow he leaves one son, Wallace North of Freeport, and two daughters Mrs. Leona Heidenreich of Woodbine and Mrs. Lillian Wurster of Stockton. There are also six grandchildren.
