LESLIE TROXELL
, 36, who resided with his brother, Parmer Troxell in Mount Carroll, died about 1 o’clock this morning in a Freeport hospital from a gun shot wound inflected on June 19 in the bed room at his brother’s home. Although it was believed at the time of the shooting that Troxell had inflicted the wound with the intention of ending his own life, the mother, Mrs. Noble Johnson, of Morseville, Jo Daviess county, who has been staying with relatives in Freeport since the shooting, declared this morning that the shooting was accidental.
“I didn’t do this intentionally, it was accidental,” Mrs. Johnson quoted her son as saying while she visited him in the hospital Sunday. She declared he told her “I wouldn’t have done such a thing for $500.” An inquest probably will be conducted later today by Dr. E. A. Diestelmeier, Stephenson County coroner, since the death occurred in Stephenson County.
Leslie Troxell was born July 31, 1901 in Pleasant Valley township, Jo Daviess County, the son of William J. and Hattie (Hoy) Troxell. He spent most of his life in Jo Daviess County until he moved to Mount Carroll about five years ago where he resided with his brother, Parmer Troxell. He is survived by his step-father and his mother, Mr. and Mrs. Noble Johnson, Morseville, Jo Daviess County, the brother, Parmer Troxell in Mount Carroll, two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Bowden of Mount Carroll and Mrs. Pearl Seets of Lena, and four nephews.
Although definite arrangements have not been made, funeral services will probably be held Friday afternoon at Morseville.
