CALVIN M. WALTER
, age 78, of Scales Mound, Ill., passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. Mr. Walter was born on May 4, 1925, at Potosi, Wis., the son of Homer and Florence (Schaal) Walter. He married Helen Harris on Feb. 14, 1948, at Apple River, Ill. He was a retired farmer and later was a butcher at the Scales Mound Grocery Store. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and Marines serving during World War II. He was a member of the Scales Mound Presbyterian Church and the Apple River American Legion Post No. 298. Cal had a great sense of humor and he will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Helen Walter; two daughters, Mary (John) Gross of Winnebago, Ill., and Joann (Marv) Schultz of Scales Mound, Ill.; four sons, Jim (Jane) Walter of Mount Horeb, Wis., Mike (Beth) Walter of Scales Mound, Ill., Jack (Kim) Walter of Apple River, Ill., and Ted (Sherry) Walter of Price Rupert, British Columbia; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Howard (Esther) Walter of Dubuque, Iowa, Harley (Hazel) Walter of Potosi, Wis., and Dick (Joyce) Walter of Shullsburg, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Todd M. Walter, on Dec. 24, 2002. Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2003, at the SCALES MOUND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH with the Rev. Ray McCalla officiating. Burial will be in Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by member of Apple River American Legion Post No. 298.
RUTH (ALLANSON) WATTLEWORTH
, 85, of Galena died Tuesday Feb. 13, 1996 at Galena-Stauss Nursing Care Facility. Daughter of Fred and Mabel (Lawfer) Allanson, she was born Sept. 7, 1910 at Mount Carroll. She and Charles Wattleworth were married March 9, 1931 at LaSalle. He died June 20, 1963.
She was a member of Galena United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and Order of the Eastern Star in Galena.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph Wattleworth of Williston, Fla., and Anthony Wattleworth of Nashville, Tenn. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, is assisting the family with arrangements.
MARGARET J. (HECKLER) WENDLING
, 68, of Galena, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover.
She was born on July 31, 1939, in Chicago, daughter of Thaddeus and Pauline (Meleshkow) Heckler. She graduated from Hanover High School, the class of '57.
She married Robert Wendling on Dec. 5, 1958, in Janesville, Wis.; he preceded her in death on May 5, 1979. Peg owned the Galena Dry Cleaners for several years, and worked at various restaurants where she was best-known for her cooking. She enjoyed sewing and baking and was well-known for her cookie trays at Christmas time. Peg loved the outdoors working in her flower garden and fishing.
Surviving are her children, James (Nancy), of Island Lake, Deniece (Steve) Boden, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Bill, of Los Angeles, Calif., Mike (Sue), of Freeport, Brenda (Russ) Farnum, of Dekalb, and Brian, of Island Lake; eight grandchildren, Erica, Michael, Devon, Garrett, Ashley, Stacey, Brooke and Jacob; a great-grandchild, Emily; her special friend, Bill Hocker, of Galena; three sisters, Darlene (Carl) Reifsteck, of Elizabeth, Patricia Schubert, of Chicago, and Fran Eddy, of Tennessee; and two brothers, James (Miyoko) Heckler, of Bolingbrook, and Robert (Penny) Heckler of Park Ridge. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debbie; and two brothers.
FRANK WESTPHAL
, 86, of Oglesby, died Thursday afternoon, March 26, 2009 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Prey-Mueller Funeral Home in Oglesby with Rev. Marc Strand officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery in Elizabeth, IL. There will be an additional visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth, IL. With a Masonic service at 2:15 p.m.
Mr. Westphal was born on October 17, 1922 in Elizabeth, IL to Julius Andre and Jenny Frances (Fraser) Westphal. He married Mary Nelson on January 22, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa. He received his bachelor degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and his master’s degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He had worked for the Savanna Ordinance Depot from 1944-1946. He had started Law School at Northwestern University but was forced end his law education after a car accident. He began traveling in Canada and the United States as a general manager of Young’s Amusement Company. He then became owner of Westphal Amusements, from 1946 to 1984. Today his son, Frank, Jr. continues to run that business. He began working for the State of Illinois in the Vocational Rehabilitation division in 1950, after being recruited by Adlai Stevenson, Sr. In 1951, he became a member of the National Rehabilitation Association, an organization that promotes ethical and state of the art practice in rehabilitation with the goal of the personal and economic independence of persons with disabilities. Receiving numerous awards, he was the Elkins Counselor of the year in 1967. He was employed for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation as a counselor for more than 55 years. Throughout his career he helped thousands find jobs and inspired many others to persevere despite their physical limitations. Until recently, he was still attending seminars and sharing his expertise, and participating in fundraising events for local schools and church.
He is survived by four daughters, Yvonne “Robin” Fielder of Des Moines, IA, Michelle (Stan) Schneider of Pensacola, FL, Sandra Westphal of Peru and Theresa (Robert) Powell of Bull Shoals, ARK; one son, Frank (Ella) Westphal, Jr. of Oglesby; 29 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Granville, the Founder of the National Rehabilitation Association, Co-founder of the Illinois Vocational Rehabilitation Association, charter member of the National Rehabilitation Association, Charter member of the Illinois Rehabilitation Association, LaSalle County Historical Society, active in Democratic Party Politics. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Westphal; one daughter, Sherry Olson, two sons, Nelson Westphal and Julius Westphal; and two brothers. ANNA (GLASKER) WEYDERT
- Services for Mrs. Joseph (Anna) Weydert, 62, will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Nash Funeral Home here and at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity at Menominee, with burial in the church cemetary.
Mrs. Weydert died at 3 a.m. Tuesday at her farm home at Menominee. She was born Oct. 29, 1893 at Menominee, a daughter of Frank V. and Mary Ann (Kaiser) Glasker. She was married Jan. 16, 1912, to Joseph Weydert and they farmed at Menominee. She was a member of St. Ann's Society of the church there.
Surviving are her husband; five sons, Edmund of Apple River, Cletus of East Dubuque, Ireneus of Dubuque and Melvin and Wilmer at home; two brothers Ben and Edward Glasker of Galena, and four sisters, Mrs. Joe Mensen, Mrs. Raymond Werner and Mrs. Francis Houy, all of Galena, and Mrs. Wilbert Wiederholt of Cuba City, WI.
The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
BERTHA (WUBBEN) WEYDERT
, 80, of 560 Wall St. in East Dubuque, formerly of Apple River and Menominee, Ill., died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 7, 1984) at Parkview Terrace Nursing Home in Platteville, Wis.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in East Dubuque, with burial in Nativity BVM Cemetary at Menominee. Friends may call until 9 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Weydert, the former Bertie Wubben, was born near Menominee January 1, 1904, the daughter of Henry G. and Anna Freese Wubben. Mrs. Weydert was preceeded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. She was a member of the St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving besides her husband are two sisters, Mrs. George (Louise) Snyder of Dubuque and Mrs. Myra Leifker of Galena, Ill.
EDMUND F. WEYDERT
, 93, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of East Dubuque and Apple River, Ill., died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at the care center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, with the Rev. Paul Otting officiating. Burial will be in Nativity BVM Cemetary, Menominee, Ill., where there will be flag presentation conducted by American Legion Post 787 of East Dubuque. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 North, East Dubuque, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m.
He was born on April 18, 1914, near Menominee, son of Joseph and Anna Marie (Glasker) Weydert. He married Bertha "Bertie" Wubben on Jan. 13, 1941, at Nativity BVM Church; she preceded him in death ofn Feb. 7, 1984. They farmed near Apple River until retiring and moving to East Dubuque.
He was a member of St. Mary's Parish and its Holy Name Society, and a former member of Holy Trinity Parish in Scales Mound, Ill. He also was former member of the JoDaviess County Farm Bureau.
Ed was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. Surviving are a brother, Ireneus B. (Shirley) Weydert, of Dubuque, a sister-in-law, Betty Weydert, of Dubuque; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Cletus, Melvin and Wilmer "Skip" Weydert. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque.
IRENEUS B. WEYDERT
, 89, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of 1155 Rosedale Ave., Dubuque, died Sunday morning, Feb. 22, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, Ill., with the Rev. Jim Parker officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetary, Dubuque. Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Friday. Feb 27, at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 N., East Dubuque, where there will be a parish rosary recited and scripture services at 8 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born in Menominee Township, JoDaviess County, Ill., son of Joseph and Anna (Glasker) Weydert. He married Shirley J. Loney on May 28, 1955, at St. Anthony's Church in Dubuque; she preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2009.
Ireneus was formerly employed at Moonlight Gardens near East Dubuque, Melody Mill Ballroom from 1948 - 1954, Artesian Bottling Co., from 1954 - 1961, Dubuque Star Brewery from 1961 - 1967 and custodian for the Dubuque Community Schools from May 1967 to January 1985, retiring as head custodian at Lincoln School.
He loved fishing, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Ann (Robert) Freund, of Rochester; and two grandchildren, Cassie and Mark Freund.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Stephanie; and four brothers, Edmund, Cletus, Melvin and Wilmer "Skip" Weydert.
A Ireneus B. Weydert Memorial Fund has been established.
JOSEPH WEYDERT
, 86, of 546 Wall St., East Dubuque, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday at the Americana Health Center in Dubuque.
His wife, Anna Marie, died in 1955. Services wll be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church in East Dubuque, with burial in Nativity B.V.M. Cemetary, Menominee, Ill. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday at the Haudenshield Funeral Home in East Dubuque.
Mr. Weydert was born in Menominee, Ill. He was a retired farmer who farmed for many years in the Menominee area. Surviving are five sons, Edmund of Apple River, Ill., Cletus and Wilmer, both of East Dubuque, and Ireneus and Melvin both of Dubuque. Five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildred.
The parish Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Sunday at th Funeral Home.
MELVIN A. WEYDERT
- Services for Melvin A. Weydert, 65, of 1410 N. Grandview Ave. will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Church.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetary, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Weydert worked at Klauer Manufacturing Co. for 38 years. He retired as a shipping clerk in 1988. He was born April 1, 1923 in Menominee, Ill., son of Joseph and Anna Marie (Glasker) Weydert. He died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 10, 1988 at The Finley Hospital.
He married Elizabeth Grabow Oct. 21, 1967 in Dubuque. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Surviving besides his wife are four brothers, Edmund and Cletus, both of East Dubuque, Ill., Ireneus of Dubuque and Wilmer "Skip" of Menominee.
A Melvin A. Weydert Memorial Fund has been established.
SHIRLEY J. (LONEY) WEYDERT
, 80, of Madonna Towers, Rochester, Minn., formerly of 1155 Rosedale, Dubuque, died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Madonna Towers.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, Ill., with the Rev. James Parker officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetary, Dubuque. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 North, East Dubuque.
She was born on June 9, 1928, in Dubuque, daughter of Allen R. and Clara L. (Kissell) Loney. She married Ireneus B. Weydert on May 28, 1955, at St. Anthony's Church, Dubuque.
She was employed as a cook for the Dubuque Community School System, from where she retired. Shirley enjoyed watching television, spending time with her grandchildren and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball games.
Surviving are her husband, Ireneus B. Weydert, a daughter Ann (Robert) Freund, of Rochester; and two grandchildren, Cassie and Mark Freund.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Stephanie; three brothers, Kenneth, Harmon and Delos; and two sisters, Dorothy and Donna. A Shirley J. Weydert Memorial Fund has been established.
WILMER J. WEYDERT
, 74, of 341 Franklin St., Galena, formerly of Menominee, died at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday, December 15, 1999, at home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, 1185 Route 35 North, East Dubuque, where friends may call from 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Nativity BVM Cemetary, Menominee.
He was a self-employed carpenter. He was born on April 16, 1925, near Menominee, son of Joseph and Anna (Glasker) Weydert.
Surviving are two brothers, Edmund F. Weydert of East Dubuque, and Ireneus B. (Shirley) Weydert of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Betty Weydert of Dubuque; and four nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Cletus and Melvin Weydert. A Wilmer J. "Skip" Weydert Memorial Fund has been established.
MICHAEL PHILLIP WILD
, age 69, of Hanover, Illinois, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, surrounded by his family at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover, with Father Noel Jacob as Celebrant. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Memorials may be given for the Alzheimer’s Association and the Elizabeth Nursing Home.
Mike was born April 13, 1940 in Gratiot, Wisconsin, the son of Hans and Margaret (Barron) Wild. He attended Pleasant Hill Country School and the Hanover Grade School. On July 23, 1960, Mike married Mary E. Flies in Hanover. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, and later the Union Pacific, retiring after 39 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover.
Mike treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved farming and working on tractors and cars. Mike enjoyed listening to country music while taking long rides in the countryside and always marveled at the first snowfall as it covered everything with a white blanket. Over the past months, Mike and his family appreciated the loving care given by the Elizabeth Nursing Home staff and Dr. Crist.
Mike will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary of Hanover; a daughter, Melody (Jody) Landwer of Elizabeth; four sons, Michael, Jr.(Sandra) of Elizabeth, Mark (fiancé Michelle Meyers) of Elizabeth, Matthew (Darcy) of Hanover and Martin(special friend Stephanie Gornick) of Hanover; four grandchildren, Cody & Dylan Landwer, Carter Wild, & Madison Wild and one step grandchild, Ashley Myers, five sisters, Alberta Wild, Mary Wild, Margaret Service, Nellie(Nick) Bainbridge, and Donna(Lynn) Eadie, all of Hanover; four brothers, William(Bev Paisley) of Stockton, Pat (DeeAnna) of Hanover, Thomas(Lynne) of Stockton, and Herman of Hanover; and many nieces and nephews. HARVEY WILSON
, was born in Elkhorn Grove, Carroll Co., Ill. in 1854 and died at Stockton, Ill. Feb. 5, 1907 with neuralgia of the heart. If he had lived until Feb. 9, 1907 he would have been 53 years old. He leaves to mourn the loss four brothers Joseph, Hiram, Francis and William, and three sisters Mrs. T. Ransom of Minden, Nebraska, Mrs. Frank R. Neat of Allegheny City, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Chas. Sewell of Chicago. His death came as a surprise to his relatives and many friends of this neighborhood. Services were conducted at the Union church by Rev. L. P. Warrington and interment was made at the cemetery near by.
SANDRA LEE WILSON
, age 55, of Savanna, Illinois died suddenly Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with Pastor Tony Hunter of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lost Mound Cemetery, rural Hanover, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, and one hour prior to the Service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in Sandra’s memory to the American Lung Association.
Sandra was born March 21, 1953 in Savanna, the daughter of Donald and Gladys (Ready) Funk. She graduated high school from Broadview Academy, Lafox, Illinois, with the Class of 1971. Sandra then attended Highland Community College, Freeport, Illinois. On March 17, 1974, Sandra married Ronald Wilson in Savanna.
Sandra worked as a sales clerk and bookkeeper for the Ben Franklin Store in Savanna for twenty years. She had also worked for Sullivan’s Grocery and Coast-To-Coast Hardware, both in Savanna.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Savanna. Sandra loved spending time and making crafts with her two granddaughters. She was a very caring Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Sandra also enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
Sandra will be dearly missed by her husband, Ronald Wilson of Savanna; her son, Brian Wilson of Savanna; her daughter, Julie and John Brigham of Savanna; her two granddaughters, Hannah and Norah; her parents, Donald and Gladys Funk of Savanna; and her two brothers, Jack Funk of Savanna, and Dale and Carol Funk of Greensboro, Oregon.
MARGARET G. WING
, age 93, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died on Monday, July 13, 2009, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held on at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the Law - Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Burial will follow in the Welsh Hollow Cemetery in Woodbine, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Margaret was born on January 23, 1916, in Stockton, Illinois, Thompson Township, the daughter of William E. and Grace A. (Crackenberger) Roberts. She attended the Union School in Thompson Township. Margaret was married to Samuel Wing on December 31, 1961, in Stockton. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1999.
Margaret was a homemaker and she and Samuel farmed together most of their lives in the Stockton area. She was a member of the Jo Daviess County Home Bureau Woodbine Unit and attended the bible study at the Nazerine Church in Stockton. Margaret enjoyed sewing, reading and tending to her apple orchard.
Margaret is survived by one niece, Rojean Albrecht; eight nephews, Gary Roberts, Jerry Roberts, Darrell Roberts, Marion Roberts, Robert Breed, Kermit Breed, Robert Wing and Richard Wing; one sister - in - law, Marian “Betty” Roberts of Stockton, Illinois; as well as many great and great - great nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Samuel Wing; one sister, Ruth Breed; two brothers, William and Harold Roberts; a niece, Darlene McKee; and one nephew, Delbert Roberts.
CLETUS W. WINTER
, 68, of Scales Mound, died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Schapville, with Pastor Barb Rapp officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by members of the Shullsburg American Legion Post and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Galena. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
He was born on June 4, 1939, in Scales Mound Township, son of Fred and Eleanor (Hesselbacher) Winter. He attended Veta Grande Grade School and graduated from Scales Mound High School in 1957.
He served in the Navy aboard the USS Rander from 1957 to 1959.
He married Sheila C. Scott on Aug. 17, 1963, in Benton, Wis.
Cletus farmed his whole life in Scales Mound Township, he also sold Pioneer Brand Seeds for more than 20 years. He loved planting and harvesting and having his grandchildren as ride-along buddies.
He served on numerous community boards. Scales Mound Township Supervisor, Scales Mound School Board, Scales Mound Lions Club, the Ambulance Board, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Council, Jo Daviess County ASCS Community Committee and the Farm Bureau Board.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Sheila; two daughters, Leigh (Jim) Stower, of Galena, and Melody (Rich) Jabeck, of Vernon Hills; a son, David (Tammy) Winter, of Scales Mound; a brother, Cleland (Judy) Winter, of Scales Mound; three sisters, Karla Leerhoff, of Oregon, Diane (Charles) Marcure, of Stockton, and Jacqueline Facaro, of Joliet; seven grandchildren, Jillian, Cameron, Benjamin and Corrine Stoewer, Olivia and Thomas Winter and Parker Jabeck; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Paige Stoewer; and three brothers-in-law, Larry Leerhoff and James and Donald Scott.
RICHARD KING WOODRUFF
, age 85, of rural Elizabeth, Illinois, died Saturday, December 30, 2006 at home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2006 at the Zion Presbyterian Church, Schapville, Illinois with Pastor Dottie Morizzo officiating. Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery, Woodbine, Illinois. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be made to the Nature Conservatory, Heifer Project, Doctors Without Borders, or FHN Hospice.
Dick was born October 6, 1921 in Albany, New York, the son of Ernest and Helen Woodruff. He graduated from New Trier High School, Winnetka, Illinois and is a 1944 graduate of Williams College, Williamstown, MA. Dick served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 – 1946 during WWII, attaining the rank of Corporal. On October 7, 1949, Dick married Margaret Carson in Winnetka, Illinois.
He joined his father in work at Refractory Products, Inc., manufacturing ceramic insulation materials. After serving as president for 14 years, Dick retired in 1986. After retirement Dick and Margaret moved to rural Elizabeth.
His special interests include St. Leonard's House, Chicago, Illinois, fox hunting, riding, upland game hunting, wilderness camping, canoeing, science, history and traveling. He served as District Commissioner of the Fox River Valley Pony Club; Regional Commissioner of United States Pony Club, Area IV; Regional Supervisor of United States Combined Training Association; President of Fox River Valley Hunt; and President of Cornwall Hounds. He was also a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church, Schapville, Illinois and the Galena Rotary Club, Galena, Illinois.
Dick will be dearly missed by his wife, Margaret Woodruff of Elizabeth, Illinois; three sons, Thomas Woodruff of Oxford, Iowa, David (Cary) Woodruff of Woodstock, Illinois, and Peter (Judy) Woodruff of Stockton, Illinois; two daughters, Helen (George) Hoffman of Barrington Hills, Illinois and Amy (Richard) Price of Libertyville, Illinois; and seven grandchildren, Hillary, Matthew, Anna, Emily, Camille, Jason and Ryan.
Richard is preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Robert Woodruff – KIA, North Korea.
