MARIA ZAWVAR , of Scales Mound, died at the home of her daughter, in Dubuque, Monday morning at the age of 86 years. She was the mother of Joseph Zawvar, a prominent business man of Scales Mound, and leaves seven other children. A native of Germany, she was married there in 1836 to Joseph Zawvar. Ten years later they came to America and settled in Guilford, where Mr. Zawvar operated a large farm up to the time of his death in 1877. The mother's great wish was that she might live to again see her son, Peter, and hope of doing so no doubt prolonged her years, but finally when in two months more her wish was to be gratified she yielded to the infirmities of age. Mother and son had not met in twenty five years. The deceased was a good Christian woman and was highly esteemed in the neighborhood to which she lived. The funeral was held Wednesday. Burial in the Singer cemetery.

CHARLES ZINK - Funeral services for the late Charles Zink, 65, who met his death in a fall down the basement steps of the Brown Brothers billiard parlor, on Friday night, February 9, 1934, were held Monday afternoon at the Lutheran church, Rev. R. W. Ploetz officiating. interment was made in the Stockton cemetery. (Alice Horner's note: I show this cemetery to have been Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton, Jo Daviess County, Illinois. Findagrave.com shows Charles Zink's date of birth as November 27, 1868.) Mr. Zink, who lived with his sister, Mrs. Speer, of Carroll County, was attending a farewell party for the Charles Walters family at the Stockton opera house, which occupies the floor above the Brown brothers establishment. He had entered the billiard rooms by means of a rear stairway and was about to return up the stairs and supposedly opened the wrong door by mistake. In his fall to the cement floor below, his neck was broken and death was instantaneous. He is survived by four sons, Howard of Michigan; Oscar of Iowa; Lawrence of Ohio; Levi of Kentucky; two sisters, Mrs. Speer and Mrs. Thomas Curboy, and one brother, John, all of Carroll County.
