Alvah Kelley
Alvah Kelley, 99, of Vienna, formerly of Goreville, passed away Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. Alvah was born Oct. 9, 1901, in Goreville, the son of W. P. & Mexico (Ollis) Kelley. He was united in marriage to Martha Collier in 1928, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 1994 Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-laws, William R. and Sandra Kelley of St. Peters, MO. and Carl and Myrtle Kelley of Goreville; five grandchildren, Allen Kelley, Karen Woods, Brian Kelley, Diane Mayfield, and Steven Kelley; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Orpha Corzine of Goreville. In addition to his parents and wife, Alvah was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam Kelley and Noel Kelley. Alvah was a retired farmer. He enjoyed gardening, reading and corresponding with family and friends. He attended the Goreville First Baptist Church. Alvah was a graduate of Brown's Business College in Marion. He was a former Cana Grade School Board member, Goreville High School Board member, Johnson County ASCS Board member and a long time member of the Cana Cemetery Board. Alvah was also a member of the Goreville Chapter 1009 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Saline Masonic Lodge 339 AF&AM, where he served as Lodge secretary for more then 25 years. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Saline Masonic Lodge 339 AF&AM at 1p.m. Saturday with funeral services immediately following at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Friends may call from 11a.m. until 1p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Asthma Foundation of America, 125 15th ST. N. W.
