Benjamin J. Spurlin
Benjamin J. Spurlin, son of Millard Sherman & Lucille (JUDD) Spurlin, was born November 27, 1923 in Linton, Indiana. He departed this life Monday morning, September 1, 2003, at 5:25am at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. At the of his death, Benjamin had attained the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 5 days. Benjamin was united in marriage to Lou Dean (TRIGG). She survives. Other survivors include; a Son - Kenneth Ray Spurlin, Sr. and his wife Carol, of Okeechobee, FL; 3 Grandsons - Kenneth Ray Spurlin, Jr. and his wife Shai; David & Heather Spurlin & Brian Spurlin; 2 Step- Grandsons - Steven & Jeremiah Beamer; 3 Great- Grandsons - Benjamin J. Spurlin II, Jacob Ray Spurlin, & Jared Herrington; a Sister-in-law - Iva Spurlin of Dugger, IN; a Special Daughter-in-law - Evelyn Spurlin of rural Simpson, IL; Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents, Benjamin was preceded in death by; 2 Brothers - Charles Spurlin & Billy Spurlin. Benjamin was a U. S. Army veteran, having served in the European Theater of operations during World War II. He was a Purple Heart recipient. Benjamin was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #841 in Terre Haute, IN. Benjamin was a member of Dugger Masconic Lodge # 721 F. & A. M. in Dugger, IN. He had served as Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1959. Benjamin was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his farm & spending time with his pets. Benjamin also enjoyed Bluegrass Music and was a member of the M. A. R. A. Ham radio club. His call sign was N9VXB. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, September 4, 2003, at 2pm at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Derrill Schroth will officiate. Interment will be in the Kerley Cemetery in the Flatswood community. Friends may call after 5pm Wednesday at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Masonic rites, under the auspices of Vienna Masonic Lodge #150 AF&AM, will be conducted at 7pm Wednesday evening.
