C. R. Miller



C.R. Miller, son of John Walter Miller & Ethel (Bracken) Miller, was born May 23, 1924 in Kensett, Arkansas. He departed this life Tuesday evening, June 22, 2004, at 11:40 PM at his home near Simpson, IL. At the time of his passing, C.R. had attained the age of 80 years & 30 days.


C.R. is survived by 3 Sisters – Mary Heidi Williams & Juanita Laverne Sweet both of Simpson, IL and Martha Lotis & Victor Hight of Joplin, MO; and Nieces & Nephews.


In addition to his Parents, C.R. was preceded in death by: a Sister – Onita Miller Workman; 3 Brothers – Bonard Moses Miller, John Timothy Biford Miller, and Herbert Hoover Miller; and a dear friend, Howard L. “Knot” McCormick.


C.R. was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater of operation during World War II.


C.R. had worked as a bulldozer operator and riverboat mechanic. He had been employed by the Florida Dept. of Transportation. Later, C.R. was employed by the Illinois Dept. of Correction, working at the Statesville & Vienna Correctional Centers, retiring on July 31, 1984.


C.R. was baptized into the Christian faith on June 13, 1971. He enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler. C.R. was an avid gardener and enjoyed raising flowers. He loved animals & cared very deeply for his dogs & stray animals.


C.R. was devoted to his family & enjoyed spending time with and “spoiling” them.


Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, June 24, 2004, at 1 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Bill Gholson will officiate. Interment, with military graveside rites, will be in the Gilead Cemetery.


Friends may call from 11 AM – 1 PM Thursday at Bailey Funeral home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Gilead Cemetery Fund, c/o Norman Lee, 690 Gum Springs Lane, Simpson, IL 62985
