Eviah Esther Girtman
Eviah Esther Girtman, 83, a resident of rural Buncombe, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 2003, at 8:20am at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. She was born Nov. 19, 1919 in Johnson County. She was the daughter of Hanford and Liza Jane (BURNS) Walker. Eviah was united in marriage to Edward Girtman on Dec. 20, 1934. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1990. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lee and Robert H. Farmer of Pinckneyville and Jean and Curtis Barringer of Buncombe; seven grandchildren, Eva and Dennis Prater, Kimberly and Michael Jones, Sue and William Webb, Dean and Holly Barringer, Rhonda and Dallas Maze, Roger and Becky Barringer, Melinda and John McCuan; nine step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, Jason Prater, Jennifer Prater, Brian Bruno, Bruce Bruno, Nicki and Jarrett Steinsultz, Matt Webb, Courtney Webb, Jamie Maze, Meagan Maze, Madyson Maze, Brandi McCuan, Dusty McCuan, Faith Barringer, Corbin Barringer, Garrett Barringer, Brenley Barringer and Ashley Barringer; 20 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Steinsultz and Baylee Webb; 26 step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Eviah was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Wesley Maze; 2 brothers, James Allen Walker and Willis Lester Walker and 3 sisters, Nellie Afton Walker, Loudean Walker, and Ina Mae Walker. Eviah attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She was a homemaker. Eviah had attended the Cedar Grove Church near Buncombe. She enjoyed reading and crochet. Eviah was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 11, 2003, at bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Dale Billingsley was the officiate. Interment was at the Cedar Grove Cemetery near Buncombe. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Grove Cemetery, c/o Doug Reid, 6920 Buncombe Road, Buncombe, IL 62912.
