George C. Turner

George C. “Cletis” Turner, son of George Garfield Turner and Gertie (Dunn) Turner, was born August 14, 1918 in Cypress, Illinois. He departed this life Saturday afternoon, October 8, 2005, at 12:07 PM at the Union County Hospital in Anna, Illinois. At the time of his passing, Cletis had attained the age of 87 years 1 month & 24 days.


Cletis was united in marriage to Helen M. (Goins) on June 19, 1937 in Vienna, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 6, 1996. Cletis was later united in marriage to Ruth O. (McCluskey) in Vienna, Illinois in 2000. She survives.


In addition to his wife Ruth Turner of Metropolis, IL, Cletis is survived by: his 4 children and their families: Ray & Ladonna Turner of Pittsburg, IL; and children – Cody Turner; Darren & Cori Turner and their children: Bryce, Bailee, Cameron, & Hayley; JoEllen & Bryan Newcomb; and Stephen Richmond. Doris Smith of Steelville, IL; and her sons: Joshua & Amy Smith; Shawn & Tammy Boyer; Grandchildren – Minta, Megan, Amy & James Boyer. Lee & Mari Turner of Belvidere, IL; and daughter – Tracey Luse; and grandchildren – Jessica & Kyle Luse. Donna & Larry Hettinger of Vienna, IL; and children – Wesley & Sabrina.
Other survivors include: 7 Stepchildren; Several Step Grandchildren, Step Great Grandchildren & a Step Great-Great Grandson; 3 Sisters – Freeda & Bill Henard of Paducah, KY, Dolly Wise of Modesto, CA, & Bertha Stone of Joliet, IL; a Brother – Doyle & Anita Turner of Pioneer, CA; Several Nieces & Nephews.


In addition to his Parents & first Wife, Cletis was preceded in death by: a Sister – Mildred Bullock and a Brother – Leonard Turner.


Cletis was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and was a member of the I.U.O.E. Local # 318 in Marion, IL. Cletis had been a former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Marion, IL. Cletis enjoyed fishing.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, October 12, 2005, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Bill Henard will officiate. Interment, with military graveside rites, will be in the Cypress Masonic Cemetery.


Friends may call from 6 PM – 8 PM Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
