Henry P. Terry




Henry P. Terry of Goreville died at his home at 7:45PM Wednesday, July 9, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 12, 2003 at the Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Rev. Alan Milligan and Rev. Jeff Bealmear officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in Terry (Cana) Cemetery, Goreville. Memorials may be made to the Terry (Cana) Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. Terry was born in Goreville on December 7, 1908 in His parents were William and Necey Elizabeth (Hubbard) Terry.


While still a boy Henry worked as a telephone operator for the first telephone service in Goreville, which was owned by his father.

During WWII he worked in the Ordill For the war effort.

Mr. Terry was a lifelong farmer having raised registered black angus cattle for many years.

Except for a few years spent working in Kankakee, IL. Mr. Terry spent his whole life in Goreville. His, last employment was with the State of Illinois working at the weigh station.

On February 6, 1930, Henry married Ora Lillian Escue. They have been married for 73 years. They were selected as the oldest married couple in Goreville and served as marshals for the annual 4th of July Parade. Lillian still resides in their home in Goreville.

Mr. Terry was preceded in passing by his parents; brothers, Ben, Sidney, Guy, Fred and Chauncey and sisters, Meb Childers and Cecil Heaton.

Mr. Terry is survived buy his daughter, Fern Hermann of Paducah, Ky.; five grandchildren, Terry Peas of Cary, IL, Robert Gene Peas of Vienna, Larry Peas of Creal Springs, Mary Ann Vaughn and Steve Hermann of Goreville. Mr. Terry is also survived by eleven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
