James Royster Passed Away at Buncombe Jan. 30 1946.
Funeral Services Held Saturday for Highly Respected Citizen.
James Royster, 70, died at his home in Buncombe, Wednesday of last week
following a paralytic stroke earlier in the week.
Funeral services were held at the Buncombe Methodist Church Saturday
afternoon, February 2, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Eli Dunn and Rev.
E. R. Steagall. Interment was made in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pall
bearers were Herbert Ragsdale, Frank Pearce, Willis Pearce, Arlie Grant,
Otis McHenry and George Stout.
The
following obituary was read at the service:
James Royster, son of S. S. and Martha Ann Royster, was born June 20,
1875 in Union County, Ill. He died at his home in Buncombe, Ill., at
1:30 p.m., Jan. 30, 1946, age 70 years, 7 months, 10 days.
He
grew to manhood in his parents’ home in Union County. He was married to
Mary C. Pulliam Sept. 26, 1897, who survives him. To this union seven
children were born, namely: David of Winnebago, Ill.; Mildred Jadade
(sic), Chicago, Ill.; Loyd of Rockford, Ill.; Maude Mullinax, Chicago,
Ill.; Charles L. of Dundee, Ill.; and Martha and Blanche, deceased. He
also leaves ten grandchildren, namely: Max, Mary, Anna Lou, Afton and
Shirley Royster; Bonnie and Patsy Mullinax; Marie, James and Lewis
Royster. Besides his immediate family, he is survived by two sisters,
Stella Miller and Alice Yeckley, both of Carbondale, Ill.; one brother,
Charles L., of Long Beach, Calif. Mary Pulliam, Jesse T. Royster and
Ella Toler preceded him in death.
When
a young man he was converted and united with Pleasant Ridge Baptist
Church. He and his family moved to Buncombe, Ill., in 1900. He then
united with the Baptist Church at Mt. Zion. His loyalty, faithfulness,
and firm belief in its teachings were recognized and he was ordained a
Deacon. He was also a trustee. His faithfulness through the years was
an inspiration to all who had the privilege of seeing him come and go
among us. For his home, church and community life, his faithful
companion and children have much for which to be thankful.
