Josephine Jackson
Josephine (Walker) Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Walker was
born at Crossville, Tenn., on April 7, 1880, and died at her home in
Buncombe on March 16, 1931, at the age of 50 years, 11 months and 22
days.
She
was united in marriage to Andrew Jackson on September 18, 1898, and to
this union were born five children, two having passed on into the great
beyond. Urias died at the age of five years, and an infant girl both
which await their mother in that place that Jesus has prepared.
She
leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and three children, Mrs.
Della Felker of Mitchell, Ill., Willis and Everett at home. One sister,
Mrs. Lizzie Sweet of Memphis, Tenn., and many friends and neighbors.
At
the age of 20 she professed a hope in Christ and united with the
Freewill Baptist church near Crossville, Tenn., never moving her
membership to Illinois, but as we watched her life, she walked as one
who had been born of the spirit of God. She, for several years operated
the switchboard in Buncombe and through her kindness and untiring
efforts and Christ-like spirit she made many friends far and near, who
will regret to hear of her going, but God knows and does all things
well. She bore her suffering patiently to the end, always showing utter
confidence in God.
Truly it can be said a good companion, mother and neighbor has passed out into a world where there will be no more pain and parting. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, yea, saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.”
Funeral services were conducted at Mt. Zion Baptist church on Tuesday
morning by Eld. Hobart Peterson and interment was made in the cemetery
nearby.
