Lowanda Thornton

Lowanda Thornton, daughter of Willis & Martha (GURLEY) Dalton, was born April 12, 1922 in Johnson County, Illinois. She parted this life Monday afternoon, August 18, 2003, at 12:05pm at her home in Goreville, IL. At the time of her passing, Lowanda had attained the age of 81 years, 4 months, & 6 days.

Lowanda was united in Marriage to John F. Thornton on September 19, 1936 in Metropolis, IL. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2003.

Survivors include; 4 sons- Dallas Glenn Thornton of Elgin, Il, Mickey Lynn Thornton of Centralia, IL, Donnie Joe & Ruth Ann Thornton of Springfield, IL, & Jack Thornton & Beth McMahan of wolf Lake, IL; 3 daughters- Kathy & Don Waters of Marion, IL, Rita & Jerry Vaughn of Marion, IL, Patricia & Steve Russell of Goreville, IL; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law- H. V. Trammell of Stonefort, IL; a niece- Peggy Etheridge; a nephew- Larry Gurley.

In addition to her parents & husband, Lowanda was preceded in death by; a daughter- Sharon Kay Trammell; a son- John Allen Thornton; a daughter-in-law- Peggy Thornton; and a great-granddaughter.

Lowanda was a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend. Lowanda was a member of the Cedar Grove Church, near Buncombe, IL.

Lowanda leaves her family & many dear friends to cherish her memory.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, August 21, 2003, at 1pm at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Don Eberhart will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, near Buncombe, IL.

Friends may call after 5pm Wednesday at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
