William Riley Maze

William Riley Maze, son of Riley and Lydia Lambert Maze, was born in Tennessee January 20, 1852, and passed away at the hospital in St. Louis, MO Sept 25, 1935 at the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 7 days.  His first marriage was to Sarah Boswell of Union County, IL and to this union seven children were born, six preceding him in death.  Mrs. Rhoda Lingle of near Goreville still survives.  Sarah Boswell was buried in Illinois.                                        The second marriage was to Polly Jane Hines of Union County and to this union eight children were born, four having preceded him in death and four still survive, Robert Maze of Dexter, MO, Thomas Maze (born Oct 1892) of Poplar Bluff, MO, Hosea Maze of Elgin, IL and Mrs. William (Lizzie) Billhartz of Highland, IL.  Polly Jane Hines Maze was buried in the Cochran Cemetery in Butler County, MO near Poplar Bluff, MO in the Lone Hill Community.            The third marriage was to Sarah Warbington Killian of Poplar Bluff, MO and to this union two children were born, the boy's name was Paul, one preceding him in death.  Mrs. Alta Kyle of St. Louis, MO surviving, he leaves to mourn his passing, six children, 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 brothers, Monroe, Andy, Harvey and Thomas of Goreville, IL and Frank of Marion, IL, and a host of other relatives and friends.  Sarah Worthington Killian was buried in the Cochran Cemetery. (Alta Maze Kyle, died 1942, was also buried in the Cochran Cemetery.)        When young, he united with the Mt. Joy Methodist Church, and later with the Christian Church at Wagontown, serving as deacon for years.  His last belief was of the Pentecostal faith.                            Funeral services were conducted at Goreville and the remains laid to rest in the Friendship Cemetery.
