GOREVILLE - Carl L. Jenkins, 67, passed away at 3:44 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, in Herrin Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, in Blue Funeral Home in Goreville, with the Rev. Dale Billingsley officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Goreville.

       Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the Heather Treat Memorial Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.

      Mr. Jenkins was born Aug. 5, 1940, in Johnson County to Bertis and Elza (Robertson) Jenkins. He married Barbara Welborn on March 25, 1970, in Johnson County. Together they shared 37 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Goreville; son, Gayland Jenkins of Goreville; Sarah Jenkins of Energy; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Elaine Jenkins of Goreville; niece and husband, Katrina and Scottie Jeter of Marion; great-nephews, Jordan Jeter and Tim and Amber Gower; great-great-nephews, Timmy and Nick Gower; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Brenda Welborn of Marion; aunt, Lela Mae Neely of Murphysboro; and several cousins.

      He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Oma Welborn.

Mr. Jenkins attended Friendship Church in Goreville. He was a farmer and raised cattle. He retired from Southern Illinois Power Co-op after 22 years of service. He loved country music and gospel music, enjoyed going to Branson, Mo., and Nashville, Tenn., and loved helping his neighbors and friends.

       He loved his wife and children very much and will be greatly missed.
