Richard (Dick) Tate, 76, of Dayton, Ohio and seasonal resident of SR 37 N, Goreville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Hospice of Dayton.
    He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Leanna Toler of Goreville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and  Beverly Tate of New Carlisle, Timothy and Laura Tate of Miamisburg, two daughters and son-in-law, Linda Geist of Dallas, Texas and Sharon and  Glen Kershner of Kettering, Ohio; eight grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Naoma (Toler) Martin of Xenia, Ohio and Mary (Toler) Miller of Kettering, Ohio, formerly of Goreville, and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Violet Toler of Goreville.
    Dick was a veteran of WW II serving in the 249th Engineers Combat Battalion, Company; B who landed at Omaha Beach during D-Day and later participated in the Battle of the Bulge.  He was a 1949 graduate of the Kansas City School of Watchmaking, a 1969 graduate of the Gemological Institute of America and was certified as a Registered Gemologist.  He retired from the Webber Jewelers Inc. after 40 years of service as Executive Vice President and Gemstone Appraiser.  He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church.
    Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec 22, 2001 at the Tobias Funeral Home Dayton Ohio.  Interment was at Bellbrook Cemetery with full military honors.
