Jemimah (Holliday) Toler

contributed by Larry Toler

Jemimah Jane Toler, daughter of Joel and Nancy Hines Holliday, was born in Smith county, Tennessee, April 24, 1860, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ferd Ballard in Buncombe, Ill, Jan. 29, 1941, being 80 years, 9 months, and 5 days of age.  Mrs Toler was the last surviving member of a family of 7 children.
She was united in marriage to W. M. Henley and to this union one child, W. P. Henley was born.  In 1881 death entered her home and claimed the husband.
She was again united in marriage Feb. 21, 1885, to J. W. Toler and to this ;union were born the following children: Van  L. and Beulah deceased, living are Mrs. Cecil Ballard, Buncombe; Dan of Goreville; Ivy, Cambridge, Ohio; and Louie of Lincoln, Nebr.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great grand-children.  Mrs. Toler was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away Dec 23, 1938.
She was converted many years ago and joined the Fellowship Christian church in Union county.  Mrs. Toler stood as a monument to such qualities as honesty, integrity, and uprightness in the communities in which she has lived and no sacrifice was ever too great to make for her loved ones, her neighbors or any one who needed her assistance.      All the medical skill, the tender nursing, the love and devotion of her children could not keep the frail body of Mrs. Toler longer.
Each one has his own sorrows and disappointments, so too had Mrs. Toler.  To each of us had come or will come the long separation.  For there is no flock however watched and tended. But one dead lamb is there.  There is no household how-so-ever defended.  But has a vacant chair.
