Eunice (Stroud) Zoole

MATTOON - Eunice Zoole, 97, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Feb. 4, 2008, in Brookstone Estates in Mattoon, surrounded by her family and caregivers.
    Mrs. Zoole was born Dec. 31, 1910, in Johnson County, the daughter of Eugene E. and Alice A. (Toler) Stroud.
    She married Dr. Asher Zoole on Dec 22, 1941, in St Charles, Mo.  He preceded her in death Dec 25, 1995.
    She is survived by a sister, Rosalie Sykes of Sacramento, Calif.; two nieces, Ruth Jedlick and husband, Roland, of Mattoon and Juanita Stroud of Mattoon; three nephews, Ronald Stroud and wife, Wilma, of Goreville, David Kraus and wife, Barbara, of Roseville, Mich., and Tom Kraus and wife, Kris, of Sacramento;  great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-great-nephew.
    In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ruel Stroud and Roland Stroud; one nephew, Robert Stroud; and one niece, Donna Smith.
    Mrs. Zoole attended First General Baptist Church and had worked as a registered nurse.  As an avid reader, Eunice enjoyed reading newspapers and books.  She studied the Bible and taught Sunday school throughout the years, including her years at Brookstone.  She was also interested in genealogy and kept track of current generations.  Her other hobbies included flower gardening, cooking and quilting.  She also lived to travel and had especially fond memories of her trip to the Holy Lands.
    Services will be at noon in Friendship General Baptist Church near Goreville, with the Rev. Alan Milligan officiating.  Burial well be in Friendship Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon today at the church.
    Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna is in charge of arrangements.
